Disappointed This Time – Sadly Wouldn’t Return I’ve been to Champneys Springs several times before and always enjoyed the experience, so it’s a shame to be writing a negative review. We visited to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and were really pleased to be given a complimentary room upgrade and a birthday plate at dinner – a lovely touch that we appreciated. Dinner on the first night was nice enough, and the room was clean and comfortable. The pool and spa areas, as usual, were lovely. However, there were quite a few disappointments this time. Breakfast was sparse, with used cups left around for some time. Lunch was even more underwhelming – the selection was extremely limited, especially compared to our recent visit to Champneys Tring, where there was easily four times as much choice. More concerning was the undercooked chicken tikka served at lunch. The smaller pieces were cooked, but several of the larger pieces were visibly pink (I’ve included a photo). We raised this with the manager, Pete, at the end of our stay, but his response was both dismissive and unprofessional. He insisted the food was fine and referred to the issue as likely being “just the hemoglobin” (his words), before laughing off my daughter’s concerns – despite the fact she’s a trained chef. He even claimed it was “overdone” and told us that in 20 years, they’ve never had a case of food poisoning so “this won’t be the first”. Due to the undercooked food, we chose not to eat dinner or breakfast the following day, which felt like a real waste of the experience. The manager offered no apology, no concern – just attitude. Although the facilities were as nice as always, poor food hygiene, lack of variety, and the dismissive attitude of management has really put us off. Sadly, we won’t be returning – it’s a lot of money to spend when basic standards and customer care fall so far short.
