I give the hotel 4 Stars, but I give the Beefeater Restaurant/Bar 1 Star, so 2* overall. The hotel section was absolutely fine. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and the check-in process was quick and easy. The room was clean, cosy, quiet and comfortable, but there was only 1 set of towels, but a call into reception resolved it quickly. However, the Beefeater Restaurant/Bar was very disappointing. The bar looks grubby and very tired. Seats and tables have marks and the carpet is stained and sticky in places. The restaurant isn't much better. The whole place needs to be closed down and completely refurbished. I happened to notice the food hygiene rating was 3*, which made me feel a very uneasy. I ordered 2 drinks and both glassed had lipstick on them, so had to be re-served. The bar staff resolved the issue quickly without any fuss, but they didn't apologise once! The cooked breakfast was chaotic and took too long to be served. What I got wasn't what I ordered and the staff never once asked if everything was OK with my breakfast. The whole concept of taking orders and then serving what was ordered is broken here. I would recommend buffet bar in front of the kitchen area, where guests can take what they want and not have to rely on serving staff getting it right every time. I’ve stayed here many, many times over the years and this was the worst stay by a long mile. I hope someone at Premier Inn reads this review and puts in place an action plan to get this location refurbed and back up to spec.
