My wife and I recently spent five nights at Domaine de Bayeux, a hotel in Bayeux, France. The room was included in a package tour of the D Day region, so I can’t comment on the price. This hotel is comprised of two sections: eight rooms in a stately home built in 1791 and sixteen rooms in two modern buildings. A landscaped garden separates the two dissimilar wings. We were visiting during an unprecedented heat wave and fortunately we were in the modern section, which had air conditioning. (The rooms in the main house do not.) The hotel is located about a ten-minute walk from Bayeux Cathedral and the downtown area with many shops and restaurants. Our room (11) was fronted by a ground-level patio with two chairs and a table. The room was decorated in a minimalistic/modern style - like something out of an ikea catalogue. You had to put your room key in a slot to have electricity in the room. TiP: The action needed to unlock the doorknob to the room was a little tricky to master. In the locked status, the knob would just spin. When you tap the knob with your key, the mechanism engages, and you can then turn the knob to open the door. The comfortable king-size bed had four pillows: two flat and two foam. It had two hanging lamps and was flanked by two open cubes. Power outlets and USB ports were on the sides of the headboard. A large-flatscreen TV and some narrow shelving was mounted across from the foot of the bed. Other furniture included two upholstered chairs around a round cocktail table and a lone chair was in the opposite corner. Tucked away in another corner was a narrow closet and cubby-like shelving. There is a safe and small fridge, but no coffee/tea set-up. The bathroom had a quite spacious open arrangement: toilet in an alcove, sink in the middle and an open walk-in shower with hand-held and rainfall shower heads at the opposite end. The sink had adequate counter space which displayed Havana toiletries: small bar soaps and small bottles of body wash and shampoo. There was a heated towel rack that was operational whenever the heat in the main room would be on. My wife noted that there were no washcloths. Water pressure and temperature in the shower were excellent. The wall-mounted hair dryer had an annoying feature: you had to continuously grip the handle to have it operate. As my wife noted, “this hotel is super clean”. You have the option to reuse towels and forego having the sheets changed if you wish. Our tour package included breakfast. It was served in charming rooms in the main house. Since we were in a separate wing, we had to traipse across the lovely garden to get breakfast. (Fortunately, we had nice weather.). Scrambled eggs, sausage, fruits, breads, pastries and home-made preserves were available. While the selection was not as extensive as those seen in mega hotels, taste made up for variety. In summary, we enjoyed our hotel stay and would highly recommend Domaine de Bayeux to anyone l
