Seatoller House

My wife and 2 children (not so small anymore) have been coming here every Easter for 7 years and every year I am struck by what a special place it is. Nigel and Trish are fantastic at keepings things down to earth but very special at the same time, wonderful food, very welcoming, the cosy fire and whisky to end the night, generous breakfasts, great sandwiches for lunch and tea and fresh cakes every day. The place is charming and rambling with all the rooms different, but all connecting visually to the lovely gardens and incredible views beyond. Perfect for hikes up to the Gables, Scafell, Haystacks and more, we come back in a variety of states (hot/cold/wet), put everything in the drying room and settle down to be spoilt rotten. It has become our favourite place for us all to challenge ourselves, refresh and re-bond.

Seatoller House is amazing. Fully catered accommodation is true luxury, and the food is fantastic. The bedrooms and communal rooms are extremely comfortable, very clean and relaxing, and the setting in the heart of the Lake District is amazing, with great hikes and bike rides on your doorstep. This place is a gem, we will definitely be coming back!

We have stayed at Seatoller house every year for the past 8 years and have always had an excellent holiday. Nigel and Trish are superb hosts. The house is full of character; very comfortable and welcoming. We usually have a room with our own private bathroom which is not ensuite, but a good size and a bath after a long walk is very welcome! The meals are delicious and the guest tea bar is wonderful with home made cake available in the afternoons! We enjoy meeting other guests and have had many interesting conversations during and after dinner. It's lovely when we meet up with people we have met on previous holidays at Seatoller. All in all, we think Seatoller is unique and thoroughly recommend a stay here.

We like the atmosphere, it is very much a home from home for us as we have been visiting for over 40 years and Seatoller House has perfect facilities for walkers. The food and hospitality is always second to none.

This is our very favourite place in the Lakes! Seatoller house is a gorgeous building set in stunning scenery. But what really sets this apart is the warm welcome and the amazing atmosphere created by Nigel and Trish and the small team. The food is wonderful at every meal time - we talk about what might be served at dinner over breakfast - that's how good it is!! If you are wondering whether to try it - do - you won't regret it! We cannot wait to go back again soon!

We enjoyed our stay in early June very much - Nigel and Trish are excellent hosts and make everyone feel very welcome. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful view over the valley towards the fell opposite. The breakfasts and dinners were exactly what you need before and after a day’s walking, and we appreciated the packed lunches which are provided if you need them. An extra bonus - the garden was looking fabulous, full of gorgeous flowers. We have stayed in various places in Borrowdale and this is an absolute favourite.

We return every year to enjoy the hospitality, the wonderful food and excellent company, whatever the weather. With comfortable bedrooms and cosy sitting rooms, Seatoller has become a second home for us. Thank you Trish and Nigel

We have been going to Seatoller House every year for nearly 40 years, much of the time for multiple visits, which tells you a lot about it. Seatoller House is unique. It is geared for walkers with a large drying room, a teabar where you can get drinks of all kinds at any time and two lounges. It is a communal place in that the dining room has two large tables and you sit with your fellow guests and chat. In this way, many friendships have been forged as you tend to meet many of the same people year after year. In spite of that, regular guests will go out of their way to welcome people who have never been before. The current managers, Nigel and Trish, along with their small staff, will also extend a warm welcome and provide advice and excellent food. The comfortable rooms are all individually decorated and have either ensuite or private bathrooms. They are not fancily furnished, but are done in a way that fits with a house that is almost 400 years old. The position of Seatoller House at the foot of the Honister Pass means that it is an excellent centre for walking. With the help of the Borrowdale and Buttermere buses and Derwentwater launches, you can do a week's walking without having to take your car out. There is also easy access to Keswick for those rainy days.
