Barceló Isla Canela

The hotel needs updating and repair work desperately, huge holes around the pool area missing floor tiles which is extremely dangerous.. railing when going up stairs from pool wobbly, how on earth this is a TUI platinum hotel I’ve no idea…food was horrendous nothing but diarrhoea all week… even got served raw meat…some of the staff extremely rude and spoke to us in an awful manner and hardly any speak English.. none of the entertainment was translated into English when asking staff if they could put on entertainment for the English we got told no.. my partner came out in an allergic reaction to something he ate he couldn’t breathe..absolutely nothing to do whatsoever outside the hotel it was like a ghost town only a couple of places Ayamonte only 15 minutes away but nothing there either no tui rep at the hotel or meeting us on arrival at the airport spent almost two hours trying to get through customs queues a nightmare. Sun loungers were dirty Shall never return to this hotel or Spain it’s completely put us off

Lovely Hotel which was aesthetically very pleasant, staff were welcoming, and friendly enough and special mention to Vera (entertainment staff) who was so friendly , polite, and informative . Rooms were clean, food was ample and plenty of it, albeit not always warm when it should be, entertainment was a bit of a let down, but we don't go for the entertainment alone. We booked all inclusive with TUI, this was the biggest shock, as all inclusive didn't really mean what it said. There was no tea & coffee facilities in the room, the mini bar fridge was unstocked and empty, 7 days in and we received 2 bottles of water and a few jellies in a container, but my biggest gripe was the pool bar. If you wanted a snack at the pool bar, you had to pay... half price on the menu price... burger €6 instead of €12, but if you were all inclusive plus (which uk don't have that option when booking) you didn't pay. You literally had to get dressed and go to the restaurant in opening hours if you wanted food... Drinks were also not all inclusive only local brands, which were OK, but the alcohol content on the drinks must have been low, because my husband drank 3 cocktails in a row, and 4 pints of beer and may aswell have drank water. He's not a big drinker but he never felt tipsy at all, that also goes for the spirits that were on all inclusive. I asked for a strong dark rum and coke and the waiter advised, we have a nice one for €6 .. as if I hadn't paid enough... We did go to the bar opposite the Barcelo for drinks and they had the desired effect. If going all inclusive please be aware it says some drinks and some snacks are included... that basically means a few crisps and corn snacks and some local branded drinks.. but if you think you're getting a burger or chips think again!!! Safety deposit boxes need to be paid for separately at €3 day. On the whole worth it if you're half board, but I certainly wouldn't pay again in a Barcelo Hotel for all inclusive, the extra £350 with TUI for just over a week isn't worth it.

Our family of three recently stayed at Barceló Isla Canela, and our experience had its ups and downs. Here's a detailed account of our stay: Cleanliness and Service: The rooms were impeccably clean, which was a significant positive aspect of our stay. The housekeeping staff deserves commendation for maintaining such high standards. The service overall was seamless, and the staff were generally attentive and responsive. Check-in Experience: Unfortunately, despite the smooth service overall, we were disappointed to find that contrary to the check-out experience (for next guests), no water was provided upon check-in. This small touch could have significantly improved our initial impression. Food and Beverages: The food at the hotel was a mix of good and not-so-good experiences. While there was a wide variety available, the focus seemed to be more on quantity rather than quality. Dishes such as salami, chorizo, paella, and minced meat burgers were plentiful, but often lacked the quality one might expect. The lamb, for instance, consisted of 80% fat, which was quite off-putting. However, there was a good selection of grilled and non-grilled fish, which was a plus. The drinks were generally good, with a variety of options like whisky-coke, mojito, martini, love on the beach, and caipirinha included in the all-inclusive package. They didn't skimp on the alcohol, which was appreciated. Unfortunately, the wine selection was a significant letdown. Despite being in Spain, renowned for its wine, the hotel served cheap, unpleasant wine priced at 4-6 EUR per bottle. The red wine was served ice-cold, and the glasses were often dirty, which was quite disappointing. Facilities: The hotel, while advertised as renovated, seemed to have only been repainted. The bathrooms had visible mold, and the tiles didn't fit well, which was quite concerning. On a positive note, the swimming pools were large and clean, with a 40cm pool available for kids, which was great for families. Staff and Language Barrier: The waiters and reception staff had limited English proficiency, which sometimes led to misunderstandings. For example, ordering a juice and receiving a shake, or asking for wine and getting a beer instead. This language barrier was a bit frustrating at times. Entertainment: The nightly animations were a highlight. The animation team, particularly Fram and Barcy, did a fantastic job of providing varied and enjoyable entertainment each evening. Incident with All-Inclusive Services: There was an unpleasant incident where I ordered a pizza as part of the all-inclusive package. I was told to wait 15 minutes, which was reasonable. However, after waiting 40 minutes and reminding the staff multiple times, I left without receiving the pizza. Meanwhile, non-all-inclusive clients were served promptly. Lovely chilled week at Barcelo isla canela. Hotel spotless and very wel maintained. Comfy beds, good food( restaurant can get a bit manic at times, but staff coped well) Lovely clean large pool and stunning beach across road. Vert quiet area, but bus available outside Hotel to Ayamonte for shopping. Can also take short trip from there on ferry to Portugal 15 mins across river. Would recommend this hotel. Hope to return

My friend. And I have just returned from a week at Barcela Isla Canela. We’ve had a great time, can’t fault it. The hotel is beautiful, immaculately clean and the staff are amazing, so conscientious and efficient. We booked half board and it was perfect. Food was amazing. An immense selection of foods at breakfast. Continental breakfast, a selection of cold meats and cheeses, cereals, fresh fruit in abundance and also cooked breakfasts for those who want an English breakfast. ( Spanish bacon was a bit fatty, but it always is) Dinner- there was such a vast selection that no one could possibly complain. Soups, salads, main courses, fish and meats, vegan choices and the desserts were to die for. Cakes, fruit, ice cream, fresh fruit, yogurts. As soon as some platters were empty they were replenished immediately. The pools were clean, but cold, 2 out door pools plus a children’s pool and a heated indoor pool. 2 Lifeguards on duty all the time. Plenty of sun beds, NO ONE reserved beds at all. There were always lots available. Entertainment every evening, Flamenco, showtime dancers, karaoke, and a bingo evening. Stereo was something happening every night. Rooms were clean and modern. Maid service every day. I honestly couldn’t find fault. Staff worked tirelessly and. Looked like they enjoyed their job. I don’t know why so many people moaned, if more them, it’s all lies. I’d go back again, however the resort is very quiet. The nearest bars and restaurants are a 5 minute bus ride or 45 minute walk to the marina. A bus runs every 2 hours to the nearby town of Ayamonte, which is lovely. Beach is enormous and clean, a bit windy tho. Overall a lovely relaxing holiday with plenty to do. Sorry no photos to upload, but the hotel looks EXACTLY like the photos in the holiday brochures.

Room was lovely - food was very good. Breakfast excellent. Was a Ria hotel previously - you can tell. Good. Location a bit out on a limb. Local bus easy to visit Ayamonte - very pretty place to visit. Took TUI Excursions. Loved the Columbus Tour. Lots of history in the area to get out and explore. Portugal just over the bridge. Enjoyed our visit and glad we had the opportunity to explore the area but would not return for a while. Quite a few torrential downpours but also some sunny warm days. Love Spain ❤️
