Middle Aston House

A little apprehensive given some of the reviews before. But the place was great, the staff were outstanding and the food was dangerously good. The place has had serious investment, and its worked. Despite this it retains most of its old world charm Thanks for a great weekend And the expanded waistline

We arrived to be welcomed by a kind gentleman , checked in very quickly , given some helpful house tips and guided to our room , we parked out car in the car park it was free and ample space there for all guests . We were told we should look round the grounds once settled in our room and asked if we would like breakfast in the morning ( there is a charge for this ) We went to our room which was not in the main house but in a block 2 min away with all the other rooms The room was very very basic it reminded me of student rooms at uni , however the small double bed was comfy and nice pillows and white bedding We had a long mirror , completely tea and coffee and hot chocolate Clean towels Small hairdryer Small tv Bath and shower and loo Shower gel ( basic ) We did sleep well , we had no noise from Other guests and we stayed in a Saturday night in August and was in our room at 9pm as we’d had a busy day The hotel mainly deal with conferences and corporate events so it’s not a hotel so to speak but my review is based on the fact that the property and grounds are beautiful, we felt safe , we slept well and the host was kind and not intrusive and made us feel very welcome We would go back they are doing renovations so hopefully the rooms will get a nice makeover The bathroom was in need of a overhaul but was fine .

The house has has extensive grounds, situated in an attractive village. Their website indicates it is primarily a conference/training venue (and not a boutique or ‘country house’ hotel). They provide adequate B&B hotel accommodation at a very competitive price for a location in rural Oxfordshire. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.

Middle Aston House is located in a beautiful village and beautiful grounds. On a sunny summer’s day, the grounds are a pleasant place to be. But that’s where the good news stops. It is a poorly maintained and cheaply outfitted corporate meeting venue and although cheap, the rooms have less facilities and charm than the worst of TravelLodges. We stayed in a room for two, but the bed would have been small for even one of us and was very uncomfortable. The tiny desk and chair would only have been any use if you were putting the finishing touches to a late night PowerPoint presentation. The carpet was dirty and had spilled food stains that had not been removed and the vacuum system obviously doesn’t quite reach the edges of the room. There was even a silverfish running around our floor. Our room opened out over the door below where the “cleaners” liked to stop and smoke so the smoke blew up into our room. I could go on, but in short, unless you need a corporate meeting venue (and even then there are much better options) avoid this place.

We arrived on the hottest day in June and we’re delighted to find our superior room on the ground floor of Orchard cottage was bright, airy and cool with French windows onto a terrace. Spotlessly clean it was value for money and we also found the room spacious and comfortable with two armchairs. The grounds are exceptional and we sat on the terrace of the main building for drinks overlooking the lake where a swan was proudly ushering her cygnets. Then we went to a local Lebanese restaurant. Breakfast was very good but the weather changed dramatically. We were in the area for the Nocturne Concerts in Woodstock. Unfortunately the heavens opened but soaked to the skin we were glad to get back to our refuge in Middle Aston. We would come again!

We stayed for one night without dinner or breakfast. This is principally a conference centre with extensive woodlands for team competitions. Our room - a standard double - was smaller than many we've stayed in and the double bed was up against a wardrobe on one side making getting in and out difficult; the fittings were decidedly dated. They advertise a high speed internet yet the first room we tried had virtually no signal. Our second room was better but totally bland, with nothing on the walls; there were several problems; - one of the main lights didn't work - the toilet dripped for a long time after use (just needs replacement washer) - and the carpet had a hole in it. - the main door closer didn't work and closed with a earsplitting crash if you forgot to hold it. - there were only 2 coat hangers. So just for a night it was ok but at £85 we thought it was poor value for the money.
