East Pallant Bed and Breakfast, Located in Large Georgian Townhouse in Central Chichester

This B&B is absolutely stunning. We were in Chichester for a Wedding and booked at short notice. The staff could not have been more helpful with quick responses. The house is beautifully kept and full of history, everything was immaculately clean. The staff were very helpful with the parking directions and called me to talk me through it. One of the staff helped us take the most beautiful pictures of us all dressed up. The breakfast was cooked to order and taste, everything was great quality. Overall a very recommended stay and far better than any other hotels/B&Bs we tried for the same price with brilliant customer service!

Getting to the carpark was very difficult - it is accessed via a complicated route through a public carpark - and the parking area was cramped. Worse still, our parking place was under a large tree and in the morning the car was spattered with masses of bird droppings. I appreciate that this is outside the B&B's control but I would not recommend it to anyone coming by car. The B&B is "unmanned" so entry is by keypad locks which are quite awkward to use. At the front of the house, entry is only through a side door which takes you through to the back of the building where you need to use another keypad lock to get into the house. Although essentially a fine building, there is an institutional feel, with lots of little signs on the walls telling you what you can and cannot do. Our bedroom, although large, looked "tired" and dull. One of the three bulbs in the chandelier was not working and we had to ring the manager to find out how to switch on the bedside lights as the flex which supplied their power had been left unplugged in the socket which was on another wall and not obvious. The shower room was dated, with peeling paint and mould on the sealant. A used towel from a previous guest had been left hanging inside the door. There was no extractor fan in the shower room and no opening window. This may all sound nitpicking, but our room cost £200 and we were expecting a degree of luxury, so were very disappointed. The only positives were that the staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was perfectly OK.

I stay in Chichester about twice a year and normally stay at a slightly tired pub near the theatre. This time it was fully booked so I tried the East Pallant B&B, which was much better and only a few quid dearer. It is a gracious old house with large rooms,. The decor is upmarket, traditional, unfussy. Terrific and generous cooked breakfast. Even the 'small' option defeated me. Friendly staff. The only minor difficulty I had was finding my way in via a side corridor and combination locks, but that was more down to my dimness than anything else. This is a good place.
