Melia Cala Galdana - Menorca

30mins drive from the airoprt and first impressions were very good. Check in and staff were great and as always a complimentary welcome glass of cava is always a great start! Arrived early (11am) but our room was ready - a side sea-view double on the 10th floor. The room was clean and comfortable for our 4 day stay. The bathroom was on the slightly smaller side with only wc shower and one sink basin. Toiletries were Ritual but couldn't help feeling the shower gel and body cream in the fixed dispensers had been diluted. Breakfast was great, a lot of choice - but if you like an omlette, be prepared to wait in a long queue as only one chef on the station with some people ordering for their partners. Lunch menu was nice too. Evening buffet was a let down for us, some of the food didn't look appetising - stuck for choice one evening, I opted for spaghetti bol as you can't really go wrong with this......until the chef took the pre-cooked pasta and added it to a hot frying pan with oil!!!! No, no, no!!!! As the a la carte restaurant remained closed, choice wasn't great so we opted to have a look at the buffet the next night - we walked around and decided to give it a miss. Food at the beach club restaurant was better. Beautiful views from the restaurants, room and lounge area of the public beach - I know it's not the responsibility of the hotel, but the shore was covered with black sea**** that you had to walk through to get out into the water - surely there's a way to clear this? Pool area - a tiny view of the sea but most of the sunbeds have the view of the back of the hotel as the pool is located at the rear. Small cold pool on the first level and jacuzzi on the 2nd and 3rd sun terrace. Although there were signs 'adults only' on the jacuzzi, these were in constant use by young children and used as kids pools. On the rare occasion they were not in use, the thought of relaxing in water after several small nappy clad toddlers didn't have the same appeal for us. On the whole a good holiday, a few issues meant it wasn't a great holiday hence why it's definitely not a 5*

I was due to stay at the hotel for 5 nights in April but due to a family bereavement I had to cancel the trip. I understand I had booked a non refundable rate but under the circumstances, I was hoping for some compassion from the hotel regarding a refund or Melia points. What made me it worse was that despite contacting the hotel twice explaining the situation, I never received a response which I feel was insensitive. I am pleased to say that my transfer company, Hoppa were amazing and offered a full credit for a future trip.

Absolutely amazing stay. From the minute we stepped through the doors every member of staff couldn't do more for you. The breakfast was the best I have ever had at any hotel, so much choice. I really can't recommend this hotel enough. You wouldn't be disappointed with your stay here. We will be back next year Emma & Ross

We've been to the Melia 3 or 4 times now and on this occasion it didn't meet our previous experiences for a few reasons. Many Pros and Cons...: Pros : Location unbeatable: The view, the beach are just amazing. It's perfect. Staff amazing: Really love the staff. They are great people (thanks!) Excellent buffet breakfast as usual. So much of everything, Evening entertainment not bad in the bar. Hotel quiet so didn't expect much. Room cleaners and service: Absolutely first class. Drinks from Bar: Excellent quality Cleanliness of hotel common areas: Excellent Cons (first time for us experiencing these): Where is the 'Melia smell' !! :( The reception area didn't have the amazing smell like it used to. Though we found it elsewhere in the hotel. We always remember this hotel for its amazing smell as you enter. I know it's petty but I was sad not to smell it. Our family loved that first impression from before.. Damp family rooms. We were moved from first room due to wet drip over kids bed. 2nd Room still wasn't great with smell of damp. It's noticeable as you walk down the hall (rooms 633 onwards). The staff sorted a room quickly but we'd unpacked already and I wasn't happy repacking. No compensation (bottle of wine?) or help to move clothes. Mmmm c'mon 5* hotel! There is some issue there it seems. Hotel Bar: Service way to slow. Just not enough staff. Bar was busy in the evening despite October. Pool& 'Hot tubs': Very cold. C'mon Melia it's a 5*. Just heat them. We had windy weather on the beach a few days and the pool was extremely chilly which didn't help. They really could do with updating the pool size now. It's not a highlight. Buffet meal at night: Tried it once and it was average. Free Water in the room : 2 x small 330ml cans for family of 4 per day.. Stingy again for 5* Coffee quality: The insta machines were the only option for morning coffee. The taste again not 5*. Yuck. I felt our holiday at the Melia was 'good' but not excellent. The weather wasn't great but we had a nice holiday. Sadly the Melia had to close off the main terrace restaurant due to wind so the hotel residents had to use the other restaurant areas which were quite busy. Just a few touches and drier smelling rooms would have helped. Hope this feedback is received positively as we love the hotel. Tips: Get a car, goto Cuitadella and Mahon for dinner, they're amazing places to spend time (both). If you have kids the Toboggan place in Cala Galdana is fun and the lunch food is great considering it's a little water slide place.

Hi there! I’m going to tell you about the absaloot best hotel ever. Right next to a pool and an amazing beach, honestly the best thing about this place was the breakfast 🥞 so many different foods and the fact it was a buffet too! Don’t worry I’m not being forced to write 🖋️ this by my parents it’s totally 💯 authentic! You need to go here if you LOVE big waves 🌊 beaches 🏝️ and beautiful 🤩 secnery . I would recommend this to your children to because there is usually a kids club on most days of the week. If you don’t believe any of this go there yourself to find out! The staff are really friendly even at end of season! 😀 so don’t listen to those moody reviews, their overagsadrarating sorry 😞 I can’t really spell… but come to melia cala Galdana and you will have soooooooo much fun! Byeeeeee!!!!!

Very nice hotel for families, specially who have children. There are two swimming area one for families and the other the infinite swimming pool for adults . The beach in front of the hotel is excellent .

Thank you David, Tomas, Eblex and Ana for all the excellent work and for the kindness you have received us at Melia Cala Galdana, making our summer holidays a true paradise. We hope to come back one day! We take home the colours of Menorca through the fish/candle Tomas gave us.

The good… Location - right on the beach, which is a very nice beach. Rooms/facilities - generally pretty good Breakfast - good The bad… We were here end of season with our kids for October half term. Many of the activities for the kids are not on this week (no evening activities) and the hotels Italian restaurant is not open as it is used for the buffet with the mosaic restaurant having been closed. In addition the service has been pretty poor, and definitely not of 5* quality. There are numerous small grumbles such as having to set own place for breakfast on two consecutive days by collecting place mats and cutlery from partially used tables as there were no tables laid out for breakfast after being asked to sit in the lobby as the main restaurant was full, room service trays sitting outside room without being collected for over 24 hours, the pool being practically arctic in temperature amongst others, but we would probably have lived with those grumbles if it hadn’t been for the experience we have just had in the a la crate Cape Nao restaurant (hosted in the level due to weather) To provide some balance we ate there two nights in a row. The first night we ordered a paella which we were told would take about half an hour which we were of course totally fine with. Lovely meal and booked again for the next day. We ate there tonight and the experience has pretty much ruined our evening. Our kids ordered chicken which arrived at about half 7, about 10 minutes after ordering. However we then waited another 45 minutes for the burger and burrata salad that myself and wife had ordered to arrive. This was an excessively long wait (almost an hour from ordering) and then the wrong order came out for my wife with a steak rather than burger. We sent it back but then had to wait another 20 minutes for a lone burger which quite comedically we saw brought out by two separate members of the waiting team who wandered around the room with it looking puzzled before the waiter who was looking after us realized it was ours and bought it over. It was unfortunately cold by then. How long does it take to cook a burger and make a salad? Basically it’s so very close to being a really excellent hotel but unfortunately it is the details and the service that lets it down. We have had a great time and menorca particularly at this time of year is beautiful but my honest assessment of this hotel is that it definitely is not really up to expectations for a 5* resort and we have been left a little disappointed by the hotel.
