Shearwater Hotel&Spa is advertised as a 4-star hotel, five-star food, pool, jacuzzi, gym, spa and a good venue for weddings. It looks magical at first glance. Unfortunately four star is only the room size, the bathroom size, bed size and some of the reception staff ( Karen and other girl which was when we arrived). Everything else is 2 stars, a big fraud and mistreatment of guests. Yes, there is a pool, gym, jacuzzi and spa but they are open to all residents from Ballinasloe and the surrounding area. You will pay for an expensive room (as in a four-star hotel) and then use the gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi with a hundred locals and members. Horror and circus. Try to imagine your stay in a hotel when there is a wedding or concerts and when 200/300 drunk guests and about fifty children start looking for their rooms at 3 o'clock in the morning. How, when and where will you have a drink or have dinner when the restaurant or bar is occupied by a hundred guests from a wedding or concert. It will not be rest and enjoyment, but robbery and survival of the guests. If you want a mini-bar or refrigerator in the room, you have to order separately and then they will deliver an empty refrigerator (in a four-star hotel). The selection of TV programs is very poor, without movies, sports, etc Five star food-breakfast-it's a shame. The bread selection is zero...only cheap toast bread is offered, orange and apple juice is a like coloured water, scrambled eggs are a mystery, you have to ask for baked eggs separately. The fruits is from cans. Lunch and dinner - almost all dishes are served with mashed potatoes or chips. Is it five star food? Managements- the hotel manager unapologetically explained to us that we are in Ireland and that this is the Irish standard. Unfortunately, this is true even though we don't want to believe it.
