The Old Vicarage

What a treat to stay at The Old Vicarage. Beautifully decorated with lots of interesting, quirky touches, gorgeous rooms and a roaring fire to chill in front of after a day of exploring this stunning part of Wales. Kirsty is the ultimate host, warm and welcoming, thoughtful and an excellent cook. The breakfast menu is just amazing and perfectly executed. She really has thought of every detail to make her guests feel welcome and comfortable. There is even a pillow menu! Thank you Kirsty and Gareth (who we didn’t meet but I’m sure was working away behind the scenes!). We would love to stay again when we get the chance.

From the moment we met Kirsty we felt like we were around family. She is a wonderful host and an amazing cook. My wife and I are still talking about the breakfasts that she served. The property itself is spectacular, the rooms are spacious and quiet (probably because all of the walls are about 18” thick. We know we will go back in a couple of years because the area is so beautiful with much to do. Especially if you’re a mountain biker or an aviation enthusiast. There’s nothing like waking up to the sound of low flying aircraft going over your head in the Mach loop. Definitely rent a car to get there rather than taking a train because taxi service is spotty. Kirsty thank you so much - se had an exceptional time!!!

Our stay at The Old Vicarage was a gift from our family, we obviously looked up the web page and saw that it promised to be a lovely place to stay. All our expectations were exceeded. The welcome we received from Kirsty was warm and friendly. Her enthusiasm for the The Old Vicarage was obvious and during our stay she shared some of the very interesting history of the house with us and the challenges she and Gareth faced during the renovations. Research into previous inhabitants are on show which add to the charm of the house. Our room (Dulas), was beautifully presented as were the lounge and dining room. The best was yet to come, the breakfast! Home made entrees, bread and granola and fresh locally sourced ingredients for the Welsh breakfast. Brilliant. Would we come again? Absolutely!

The Old Vicarage is a fantastic place to stay! We’re so pleased that we came across it when looking for somewhere to stay in Machynlleth. We stayed for three nights and from the moment we arrived to when we left everything was just perfect. Kirsty and Gareth are excellent hosts, they make you feel as valued guests and enjoy everything the Old Vicarage has to offer. The room was superb with lovely décor, extremely comfortable, clean and a great selection of tea and coffee. We stayed in the Eyri room which has a wonderful view out the back of the waterfall running through the garden and many wild birds. There are so many personal touches, an honesty bar with a great selection of drinks – many local, chilled water left outside the door in the evening and milk in the morning, a packet of seeds from the garden when we left, homemade cakes/biscuits in the lounge and a lovely surprise of Welsh cakes with homemade jam left in our room. Breakfast is sumptuous, tasty local produce with a Welsh style. Kirsty is a fantastic cook. Every day before the main breakfast there is a different “starter” homemade by Kirsty. Along with the main breakfast menu there is also a daily special menu which made choosing what to have very difficult. We can see why they have won awards for their breakfasts. We will definitely return having found our perfect place to stay!

We have just had the most delightful stay at at the Old Vicarage. Kirsty and Gareth (proprietors) are lovely hosts and have some amazing plans for the future, whilst also providing the most fantastic rooms and breakfast! A true home-away-from-home and a lovely break from the rush-around of normal life.

First time visitor and what a super place to stay. Rooms are spacious,comfortable and spotlessly clean with good facilities. Breakfast is excellent with great choice and cooked to order and Kirsty is an excellent host who makes every effort to make your stay enjoyable. Will definitely be back

What a wonderful place to stay: beautiful accommodation, sublime food and a really lovely ambience. The Old Vicarage is a credit to Gareth and Kirsty - you couldn't wish for better hosts. They very much get it right. Go!

The Old Vicarage is phenomenal, Kirsty and Gareth have created a real gem. The decor throughout is gorgeous and every part is well thought out. Don’t get my started on the breakfasts, as these are to die for! You guys are absolutely the hosts with the mosts! Thank you both for having us time and time again xo
