Center Parcs Park de Haan

We booked a VIP lakeside cottage, what we got was dirty and basic. Even after reporting our concerns, a rude house keeper turned up, wiped the floor again and left. The banister was unsecure, missing smoke alarm in one bedroom, and mould growing on the wall in one room. The towels included in the VIP service are paper thin and very small, not a bath towel by any means. Really disappointed. Reading other reviews, I'm certainly not surprised cleanliness is mentioned time and time again. Evidently no one from European center parcs reads trip advisor as it would have been addressed by now if they did. We also paid for the half board option so the ability to eat at the buffet each night, but the food, whilst ok is not labelled. This means you are guessing what food there is and most importantly what the allergens are. This is not the European center parcs experience I've come to expect, so poor.

We have just got back from a 6 night stay at Centreparcs de Haan. After reading some of the reviews I was initially a bit worried but I really needn't have been! We had a premium cottage (2 bedrooms for 2 adults, a 4 year old and 7 month old) which was in great condition and had everything we needed. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful on the site and went above and beyond. The swimming pool was great, my daughter, son and their friends loved going in. There were 3 slides open when we went (rapids, a dark slide and a not dark one) which was perfect for the 4 year olds. The bikes we hired were great and the activities were reasonably priced. The shop on site was reasonable for some things and pricey for others so it's good to bring your own stuff (including a couple of extra loo rolls, cleaning stuff, pillows). We would stay again but will look at another Centreparcs site on the continent next time. It is only an hour and a half's drive from Calais so super easy to get to. We did a day trip to Bruges too which was a half an hour drive or a little longer if you take a tram then train. Would highly recommend staying here :)

Despite most of the holiday being great. I suffered a severe injury as a result of one of their bikes with a unique, and lethal, braking mechanism. This caused me to have a severe laceration on my knee. Minimal help provided from CP and on returning to the UK trying to submit a complaint to them is actually impossible. You simply cannot submit your request via their website the submit button doesn't work! Plus no email address to send details to. Hoping this review might prompt someone to reach out to me.....

We have just got back from a week's holiday here. There were 9 of us from 54-2 years old. It was great for all the family. Everyone enjoyed themselves. We haven't been to a center parcs before so this was a new experience for us. Swimming pool suited us all, soft play was my daughter's favourite (6years old) we didn't have the best weather when we were away but we made the most of it. We had the comfort sleeps 8 cottage and was a tad small for 5 adults a teenager, 10 year old, 6 year old and a nearly 2 year old but that was our fault on booking. Kitchen facilities basic and a bit small for the number of guests. Just a combi microwave oven. Take extra pillows with you along with hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher tablets, tea towels and bigger cups if you like a large tea or coffee. We went to oostend, beautiful beach but watch out for Jellyfish. We went into Bruges twice which is a MUST when you are there. Only a max of 30mins in the car! Will we be heading back? 100%! We are also intrigued to see what other European centre parcs are like.

If it were based on the reviews here, I probably wouldn’t have booked, which is a real shame as we have just returned from one of our favourite holidays. Don’t compare apples and oranges, this is not a UK Center Parcs! This park however exceeded almost all of our expectations (which were understandably low given the reviews on here and it’s low price). The accommodation was basic but did meet all of our needs. We travelled with two kids under 7 and the park was absolutely perfect in terms of facilities and options: from park, farm animals, soft play, water park and food outlets. Come prepared and you will not be disappointed. Yes the park is best when dry but mother earth calls the shots when it comes to that! A few tips I picked up here that certainly did help. Bring necessities from home; toilet rolls, extra dishwasher tablets, pool towels, tea towels, hand soap, dish soap, The rest can be picked up at the shop on site or at the local Aldi. The coffee cups are tiny so bring your own too (thank me later!). We had the best week away and even had tears from our little one that didn’t want to leave!

We are committed Center Parcs fans -having been to most of the UK Parcs and One in Holland but this was the first time going to this site. First impressions that is a much smaller and compact site to the other ones we have been to. Nevertheless we fell in love with this center parcs. The staff were tremendous -everyone spoke amazing engish and simply couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The accomodation felt a lot more basic than the english version and we regretted not booking a lodge with a second bathroom. For UK visitors this site is less than 90 minutes from the Shuttle terminal and avoids travelling to Holland and having to face the bottle neck outside Antwerp . Would we return ? certainly provided we upgraded to a second bathroom.

I’d say this park is 20% smaller than Woburn which is likely reflected in the cost. The activities here are better suited for younger children I think. We didn’t eat on site but the coffee is not great. I’ve included some tips below. Bring your own pillows if you like comfort Take dolce gusto pods to use in the coffee machine inside the lodge Don’t forget adapters, there are a few usb ports ( one of ours didn’t work) Bikes are great and cost effective Highly recommend the local beach ( 5 mins drive or short bike ride away) really beautiful. Bruges is a 30 min drive or the local town of dehaan in also pretty - dumon chocolate in Bruges is incredible Bring towels, toilet roll, shower gel, shampoo etc Local aldi is great for a food shop beforehand. Apart from that overall a good visit. Staff weren’t as pleasant / helpful as we would like but no complaints. For someone with a dust allergy, the rooms were fine, we had a premium cabin. We stayed in a comfort lodge which was mid-range pricing for 4 people, we thought the lodge was small for 4 and the layout impractical. The toilet/shower was downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. I don't understand why there is a baby gate at the top and not the bottom for baby who wanted to climb the stairs. And there is no room for your stuff in the kitchen cupboards. Heating is too low and insulation poor so we were cold and we kept hitting our heads on the ceiling upstairs we're not particularly tall at 5ft 2. On the other hand there was a massive indoor soft play included which was great, we went nearly everyday it was the biggest we've been to and we stayed for hours. The pool was also included and the farm too. I did not like that towels were not included and then for some reason a voucher was offered to book when you arrived which is odd since I bought my towels with me by then. I wasn't pleased we had to make our own beds when arriving at night tired. This centreparcs was OK for the price but I preferred les villages in Paris over this one, but still miles better then the UK centreparcs. Bruges and Ghent are not far away and worth a visit. We went to carrefour and delhaize for supermarket food nearby.

If you’re reading this it’s probably because you’re being hesitant about heading here after reading the reviews. Wow, do I wish I’d listened. Upon booking I was being rational thinking, people only complain and never compliment and went ahead and booked it. I sincerely wish I never did. Please please read the reviews and do not make the same mistake I did. I will NEVER return and NEVER recommend this place. I’ve listed very briefly below the issues I had but to sum it up. My husband said he’s stayed on barracks better than this place. We were so disappointed and had such a bad back from the beds we actually checked out early as we couldn’t wait to leave. For context, a couple in their 30’s and a 2 year old. The ONLY positives I have are. Soft play was great, and the free petting farm and a 30 minute drive to Bruges. Cons - very very small park, can do the whole thing in 2 days max. Plus all the below. I wish center parcs would take notice of the reviews and do some very much maintenance. Yellow stained duvets Stained and lumpy pillow cases Stained baby mattress Dusty everywhere Ants in the kitchen Floors hadn’t been hoovered and no broom to sweep so bits on your feet. Hadn’t been mopped/cleaned No essentials/amenities like hand soap or towels Dirty walls One plug socket in living room Laminate floors coming away from the floor Cobwebs in most of the corners No lock on the front door on the inside. 2 year old can reach handle and escape Knife found in the garden (genuinely my daughter was waving a sharp kitchen knife around) Bikes in appalling condition Cars on the park constantly throughout the week Lorry’s delivering through the main park (no service entrance) I repeat… do not go here.
