St Martins Guest House

We stayed in two rooms here for a night before joining our cruise and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It is close to the white cliffs of Dover and Dover castle and only a mile from the port. St Martins is very well located. John, the concierge was amazing and always wanted to please. As other reviews noted, he is very knowledgeable of the area. The rooms were very clean. As others have stated St. Martins is a guest house. Rooms are small and basic and there isn't any air conditioning. If those things are important to you you are better off booking a large hotel. We felt the positives of this charming place far outweighed any of that other stuff and inexpensive at about 100 pounds a night.

If you want traditional and modern go to the chain hotel a block away. We chose the hotel for the location and tradition. Yes, the rooms are small and uniquely furnished but that added to the charm and experience, just a block to walk up the hill to visit Dover Castle (a MUST) and a couple of blocks down the hill to a couple of great pubs that John (our most excellent host) directed us to. Also just a few blocks down to the town center with unique little shops & stores and a few blocks to the "modern" shopping area with grocery & department stores, a theater, bakery & cafes.
