Hydro Hotel

This was like stepping back in time and I loved it. My daughter in law and I shared a twin room with a sea view and were very happy with the selection of hot drinks, biscuits and water provided everyday - and we had a ‘fridge! Breakfast was served on tables set with white tablecloths, the staff were lovely, the lift quirky - and I need another stay soon. There is a small carpark for the hotel at the rear but not a pleasant walk in the dark in the rain, however roadside parking is usually available, but might prove a little difficult in the summer months!

The hotel setting was superb. We had a sea view and it was very convenient for walking into the town. It was spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly.

A large Victorian hotel. Bedroom decor was modern and fresh. Breakfast was good but service was a bit slower than we would have liked. We did not use the restaurant otherwise on this occasion. A gym would be a good addition to facilities.

If you are looking for an elegant, refined stay this is the place for you. My room was comfortable with a lovely sea view. The lounges and public area of the hotel are elegant and the perfect place to have tea or watch the world go by. The garden is lovely and the secluded outdoor pool a delight.

Good hotel away from the town centre with easy access to the beach front. We stayed in Room 220 - was a furnace even when day temperature was 20 degrees. That room must be avoided.

The downstairs of the hotel was pleasant and comfortable. However, our side seaview bedroom was small and extremely tired. It badly needed updating and a general facelift. The bathroom was even more tired with paint chipping on the bottom of the door and the whole suite needs replacing. The furnishings were cheap and tacky, eg 2 vinyl chairs. Also, the bare basics were provided in the bathroom, no shower hats even, let alone bathrobes. It is a nuisance to have to bring our own. The bed was small for a hotel these days, certainly not queen size, small double at best, mattress was good though. Staff were ok but seemed not all that well trained. We only had sandwiches in the evening so can't comment on the food in general. Breakfast was adequate. We are quite surprised that there seem to be a number of positive reviews, but it is possible that some of the rooms have been upgraded. The room was stuffy, no air con, fan provided in the wardrobe. The car park is very small and hotel guests are not able to reserve a space. That was stressful on arrival and reception staff were unhelpful and uncaring. We had to park on the street but were able to find a space in the car park after an hour or so when lunchtime patrons left. The main negative aspect to our stay, however, was the poor condition of the room and bathroom. Also, basic amenities such as shower caps really should be provided.

Absolutely stunning, travelled with a dog and offered room service for breakfast. Superb customer service, stunning location, sea views, beautiful grounds. Super beds and room. The whole hotel oozes of care and attention to detail. Congratulations to all those who run it and make it such a superb place to stay in we will be back. Can't rate it highly enough I'd even go as far as to say the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Beautiful, charismatic and a nod to days of old, courtesy, kindness and care.
