Highfield Guest House

The Highfield Guest House is just a little bit further from the centre of Edinburgh but you can easily get there in 20 minutes by bus. The premises are immaculate and I was given a very friendly welcome by Maggie. Breakfast is not provided but that is not a difficulty as a branch of Margiotta's supermarket is just opposite where good croissants and coffee are available. The ensuite facilities were very well kept.

The guest house was easy to find with ample nearby parking. A lovely warm welcome (and room upgrade!) was the start of a perfect stay. Beds were very comfortable, and the rooms were clean and well-appointed. We'd definitely stay again.

What a charming guest house! The room was lovely. Kate was an excellent host. Though breakfast isn't included, Kate gave us some terrific suggestions for meals. She was right on about those we tried, particularly Smith's for breakfast and Fishers in the City for an elegant dinner. Kate also gave us directions for riding the bus and generally getting around. As we found with our other Scottish hosts, Kate was helpful and friendly.

Lovely stay. Ideal location with regular buses running into City very nearby. The area was exceptionally quiet in the Event by with some great nearby cafes for breakfast. Room was very clean and comfortable with a view of Arthur’s seat from our window. The host was super helpful with an informative welcome explaining all of the transport options and places to visit. Highly recommended

This was a very pleasant place to stay in Edinburgh. Our elegant room was at the back, very quiet and had a great view of Arthur’s Seat in the distance. We slept very well and were lucky to find a free parking spot for our car in the small, no-thru road alongside the house. In our 4 nights we didn’t use the car at all because frequent and cheap buses were a short walk away, taking us straight in to the centre. The Queen died just as we arrived, so there were some bus diversions but that was fine, since it was easy to walk the rest of the way to the Royal Mile. In fact, we found it was an easy and straight-forward walk there from the guest house, if you don’t mind a longer walk. Kate was very helpful with directions and advice. No breakfast was being served while we were there but she gave us suggestions as to where we could eat. There’s a small supermarket/bottle shop just across the road which comes in handy. Do not hesitate in booking this place to stay!

It was a perfect location to stay. Very clean and close to the city centre. Lovely lady who told us everything we needed to know about the room and the city at our arrival. Everything you could possibly need was present in the room.

Maggie & Gordon are lovely and so helpful with details such as bus routes, timetables & taxis. We had a fabulous room and the beds are so comfortable. Easy access to the city centre and a brilliant place to stay. Edinburgh is full of history with a lively cheerful feel with plenty of live music and places to eat and drink. I would definitely recommend
