The Old Government House Hotel & Spa

Beautiful dinner experienced in this lovely restaurant. The Restaurant manager and Pamela have been super top. Super attentive. The hotel itself is a gem, nothing to moan about. The quality of our meals was absolutely incredible. The brisket dhowed a great quality of meat sourced, the fillet was cooked perfectly. St Emilion wine helped us to keep enjoying this meal. We ended with a fantastic super tasty pannacotta, wow !!! Definitely we will come back!

Checked into our room which was very brown,patterned and small. Looked in the bathroom( horrid blue tiling) to find that it had had a leak and the ceiling was very stained. Asked to move. We were shown4 more rooms, first had a fire exit going straight psst the window, 2nd had a humming sound from the kitchen extractor, was told it goes off at 10pm- not for us, 3rd had a very low ceiling so claustraphobic, 4th we took as it was all getting pretty much of the same, brown. The staff are absolutely lovely all trained to look after you. Gorind was charming and helpful and all staff are a credit to the red carnation group. However if you want brown patterned rooms that have seen better days for a high price then come here. If not, there is better on the island. Also whilst I was there, they had a roof leaking, due to heavy rain,onto the marble stairs leading to the toilets from the bar. Very dangerous and staff had to close this area off after I had brought it to their attention. Sadly I won't be returning to this hotel, as I want accommodation that is better than this. They are on the island as I have stayed in them. Guernsey is a beautiful place with fabulous restaurants and this hotel is supposed to be the best on the island. It isnt

This hotel is 5 stars and felt it. The service was impeccable but really friendly. Everyone was great but the chap on reception (Tom, I think) made us feel both at home and like nothing was too much trouble from minute one. He was great. We soon met Noks when we had curry. Again gave you the all the service you could ask for but was personalble. She would ask after each course if the food was enjoyable. Noks, your service with a smile was enjoyable. Malcolm in the bar was also brilliant. He really knows how to make a cocktail. We did the cocktail making course and that was great way to find out the basics so I can experiement. Again he was super friendly. The food was brilliant the curry was great, the afternoon tea was wonderful, the breakfast was lovely. Litterally no complaints, it was all enjoyable. The room has excellent air con, the pool was really relaxing and the kiddies pool.was great for lounging in. Honestly it was about as good a as gets. OGH is not a cheap place to stay. But feels costly rather than expensive. By that I mean it was worth the money. I would absolutely return.

I can honestly say I don’t think I have ever been so blown away by such impeccable service in an incredibly wonderful hotel. Ricardo and his team are faultless - the service is impeccable, friendly and nothing is too much, nothing. Every fine detail is taken care of and the hotel owners should be incredibly proud of the incredible staff management and team at this hotel. The food was utterly delicious and the rooms were spotless and cosy. We unfortunately had a medicine emergency during our stay which meant I was in hospital for a whole morning - Riccardo and his team were just amazing - I’m teary writing this. I had to leave my 10 month old son with with father at the hotel during my hospital visit and Riccardo and his team all made sure my father had huge help with the baby and even looked after him so my father could have some breakfast. Riccardo even picked me up from hospital. Honestly, if you want 10* service in a beautiful hotel then don’t hesitate to book - cannot recommend this beautiful hotel more. Harriet x

From the time we stepped over the threshold into the reception and were welcomed with smiles and a glass of chilled Prosecco, to our departure espressos ,we were treated with warmth ,kindness and generosity . Others have written about the quality of the hospitality , the sumptuous breakfasts , comfortable bedrooms.(lavender pillows as requested , pure cotton linen and , yes, fluffy white towels and robes ). The well ordered teamwork in the restaurant created a relaxing calmness that is rare , as did the absence of intrusive background music ..No request was too much trouble.Truly the staff are delightful ; as an elderly couple we felt especially cared for -from housekeepers, restaurant staff to duty managers who took the time to chat to us . We were not able to thank the catering staff but our compliments on one of the best ever afternoon teas ! A happy experience of our first visit to Guernsey and to the memorable OGH .

Great hotel & wonderful attentive staff, located on the edge of town. We would definitely return in the future. Good location as well. High quality breakfast and evening meals plus the wine cellar suits all budgets & tastes. Outdoor swimming pool looked good too.

Stayed one night here before going on to Sark. Wow! Amazing place. The service was exceptional. Roberto the customer relations manager was very friendly and showed us round the hotel on arrival and explained the services provided. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a refreshing warmth and welcoming atmosphere when we arrived. The food was very good. We all had dinner in the restaurant that evening and couldn’t fault it. Breakfast was plentiful with a vast range to cater for everyone’s taste buds. The hotel was very clean, well maintained and managed. The weather was good and there is the benefit of an outside pool area. We will definitely go back again when visiting back to Sark but will also stay a few more days at this hotel to feel the real benefits it has to offer.

5 days in Guernsey at the out standing Old Government House, we consider ourselves considerably well travelled, and the staff at the OGH were exceptional, there is a saying that people make places and this was one of those experiences, Will definitely be back.

We stayed for 4 nights on an excellent package including breakfast, a dinner and an afternoon tea. The hotel is brilliantly run, nicely situated, very calming and genteel. It forms a central part of the holiday, in a lovely town, on a lovely island.
