Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club

This is our 9th time at the Waiohai, it is our favorite Marriott timeshare. The villas are comfortable and typical of Marriott's style - your view usually depends on if you're a Marriott owner but we found the staff very accommodating - they offered us a good view in a building with a longer walk which was well worth it as our view was lovely! The landscaping is beautiful and well maintained. The Honu bar offers a small menu but good food (I enjoyed my specialty drink but my husband and friend thought theirs were very light on the alcohol and not very good) - the servers are friendly and it's fun to eat there while you look at the ocean and maybe spot whales passing by. There are ample bbq grills if you want to grill, which a lot of people do. There are 3 pools -- a relaxation pool (not for kids) which is good for swimming laps (as you dodge the adults who stand there and talk for hours), the large pool which is busy but enough room to swim, and a very shallow pool by the beach (which is pretty much only usable to put your feet in). That said, the grounds provide ample room for your lounge chair, shade, sun, fantastic ocean view. The beach is a little small but you can walk onto the county beach where you will find sea turtles and monk seals and lots of people enjoying the good snorkeling. In the other direction you can walk towards the Sheraton and another long beach. We really enjoyed Courtney who taught the water aerobics class and also a specialty yoga/Tai Chi/Hula class -- Courtney teaches the Hawaiian culture and we really appreciated the opportunity to learn from her. We feel the Waiohai offers the best Marriott experience of the true Kauai and we look forward to returning next year!

This breaks my heart to review this because this is our home resort. I'm not sure I'll come back. I'll start with the good. Pros: The beach is beautiful, clean, and long (not deep) The Hono Bar has great food and attentive service The staff is friendly The resort is close to shopping and Little Fish (great coffee, smoothies, açai) Cons: When we arrived the room was not clean, hair on bathroom floors and one very long hair when I pulled back my bed. I immediately walked to the front desk - they were very apologetic and responsive. They sent 2 very nice housekeeping guys to 'freshen' our room. The serenity pool was not clean. I thought maybe I was just being critical bc of my initial experience but nope - overheard another gentleman at the pool say he was switching pools bc maybe the other wouldn't be so slimy. Overall, the resort needs a deep clean. The hallways were icky - dead bugs, dirty floors for the entire week. The gym machines need a scrub. It just overall felt neglected and relying on its location. We sent a note to the MVC in hopes they do better.

We booked a 2 bedroom suite that is supposed to accommodate 8 people. We were six people total with two adults, one child and three teenagers. I would not recommend this room for six, let alone 8. Each bedroom has one king size bed, one of the bedrooms has a very uncomfortable sofa bed. The living room has another sofa bed, but if you open the sofa bed, you do not have room for people to relax in the living room. We arrived at the property mid-week and the front desk told us that most owners arrive on the weekend, so there was only one room left. Our room was in hale (building) 5 facing the back of the property. Every time you leave the room to go to the pool or beach you have to go through the grills. At every point in the day there is either someone cleaning the grills or people cooking. It really bothered me that this is the only path for people staying in the back of the resort. If you can avoid it, don’t stay in hale 5. The management needs to move these grills from people’s path. There is no breakfast service at the hotel. There is a store by the lobby that sells Starbucks coffee but does not have breakfast sandwiches. This means that you either need to make your breakfast or go into town. There is a coffee shop walking distance to the hotel, but the line there was so long every morning. The resort needs to offer breakfast options to guests. There is a kitchen in the room, but some people do not want to cook when they are on vacation. The pool bar is open from 11 am to 7 pm. You also need to make sure that you get your dinner before 7 pm if you stay on property. During our stay our room was cleaned once. I have stayed at other Marriott Vacation Clubs where staff passed by daily and offered to remove your trash and provided clean towels. You can call to request services, but it would have been nice to be offered towels, etc. The vent in our bathroom was very loud and the shower pressure was terrible. We also had a huge bug in a locked closet in the bathroom. This may have been unique to our room, but needs improvement. The pools are quite small for this size of a resort, and get very crowded. I wanted to go to the pool first thing in the morning before the crowds, but when the pool opens staff cleans it. This does not make any sense. Shouldn’t staff clean the pool BEFORE it opens? If you try to go the pool later in the day there are no chairs available. The quiet pool area has a total of 20 chairs. People place their stuff on the chairs in the morning and ignore the signs. Staff does not monitor the chairs’ occupancy. The hotel also does not offer beach chairs, so if you want to relax in the sun you are limited to the few chairs by the pool. There is an area that is called a playground with no play equipment for children. It looks like it may have been a small pool that is now covered and someone put a sign that it is a playground? Weird. I have been to other Marriott vacation club properties in Hawaii and this one is my least favor

Nestled on the golden shores of Poʻipū Beach — just a short, scenic 30-minute drive from Lihue Airport — this resort became much more than just a place to stay. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles, genuine hospitality, and the kind of care you can’t find just anywhere. We’ve now visited three times — in 2019, 2024, and 2025 — and each stay has been more memorable than the last. And yes… we’re already counting down the days until we return in 2026. YES! What makes Marriott Waiohai Beach Club so special? Of course, the location is unbeatable — oceanfront views, swaying palm trees, and sunsets that stop you in your tracks. But it’s the people who truly make the difference. Every single team member — from the front desk to the grounds crew to housekeeping — radiates aloha. They remember your name, your story, and greet you like family. Their warmth is sincere, and their service is exceptional. Kyla, Faith, Tyler, Jess, Jessica, Dean, Bob, Anna, Carole, Cat, Rand, Kai, Alvin, and Becca — each of you has made our stays unforgettable. Whether it was a friendly chat in the lobby, going the extra mile to help with a request, or simply offering a warm smile when we needed it most — you all made us feel like we belonged. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) for your hospitality, care, and kindness. It’s no surprise we've met guests who’ve returned to this same resort over 20 times. Because at Waiohai, you’re not just checking into a room — you’re becoming part of a community. You’re cared for, remembered, and appreciated. Whether it’s the clean, spacious villas… the lush, well-kept grounds… or the helpful tips from employees who truly love this island, every moment spent here is a reminder of why we fell in love with Kauai in the first place. Our week-long stay was perfect in every way. The grounds were beautiful, the suite was crisp and clean, the pool bar served good food and drinks, and the entire staff was very professional and hospitable.

We stayed for a week and loved everything about it! The property was gorgeous, the beach was fun (a little small, but still fine), and the rooms were spacious. On the inside, the rooms were maybe a little dated, but the property itself made up for it with all the well manicured lawns, waterfalls, landscaping, etc. The pools were clean and taken care of, and everyone was really laid back and accommodating. We didn't book a special view or anything, but we were able to overlook scenic gardens from our large balcony. The beds were also really comfortable! Overall, this property, and the island of Kauai, are everything you could ask for in a tropical vacation! We even saw sea turtles on the beach!
