Stilworth House

What a great decision it was to stay at Stiworth House. My wife and I toyed with the alternatives. From the reviews, a couple of nice hotels were available with the short comings of perhaps noisy guests, corporate service and same old hit and miss quality. From the moment Carol ventured up the path to meet our car, and offered to help carry our cases, we knew we had chosen well. Her smiling, welcoming face mixed with the best of Yorkshire craic, set the scene for two great days in Helmsley. The room: Was one of three in her (and Frank's) garden. We had our own key to come and go any time, and the entry path was well lit. Our bedroom was well equipped with a fridge containing milk and fresh water. The kettle was well used by us, and the bulging cookie jar of chocolate digestives fully appreciated. Oh, and the welcome sweets were a nice touch. We chose the twin, comfy, bedroom which had crisp, white bed linen and the beds were long enough to fit my 6ft 3 inch giraffe like frame. The ensuite had a good shower and everywhere was immaculately clean. I loved the white, fluffy, quality towels. There was plenty of space to store things; the walk in small cupboard had dozens of hangers..well that makes a change and a foldable case rack. Breafast: was in one of the ground floor rooms of the house, with three tables. We had plenty of choice to start with cereals, fresh fruit and porridge available. We were consulted as to how we liked our porridge made and offered alternatives....another first in our extensive and Worldwide travelling over the last 45 years of marriage. The second 'course' was a choice of hot food to set you up for the day. I can still taste Frank's locally sourced 'Full Yorkshire'. The Craic: Carol and Frank are a great double act, full of local stories and recommendations, and are great fun: I think they read the character of guests and profer suggestions and chat accordingly. Carol's recommendation to eat at The Trattoria resulted in one of our best meals this year. Our search for 'a change' took us to one of the best restaurants we have ever experienced...the Spice4U. An Asian restaurant on the square with superb service and food ( please note we have had more than our fair share of Michelin Star and top SE Asian street food over the years). Have I forgotten to mention Helmsley Brewery 5 minutes away, with a small tap room bar frequented by the friendliest of welcoming locals. Our day trips took us to Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sandsend (order the inch and a half thick crab sandwiches/salad from the Prom side Sand Cafe...unbelievable) and Robin Hood's Bay. All Carol's recommendation. NB Friday is Market Day in the Square. In summary: Stilworth House is a quality guest house/bnb. A short stay there can leave you with a feeling of staying with your favourite family members, in a very warm and comfortable home. It is very clean and equipped with everything you need for a comfy stay or 'overnighter'. Many thanks Carol and Frank

We had a fabulous stay here. Lovely room, quiet surroundings and close to all restaurants and the town centre. On site parking is always a bonus. Quite literally the best breakfast we’ve had at a b&b, freshly cooked and plenty of it. Our hosts were lovely, could have chatted all day with them. Very knowledgeable of the area. Could not find a fault. I highly recommend Stilworth House.

Fabulous We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Stilworth House. Couldn’t find fault if we tried. The best breakfast we’ve ever had in a b&b. The room had everything we needed and the hosts Carol and Frank were great, very knowledgeable of the area and nothing was too much trouble. Parking on site and very close to all restaurants and town centre. A gem.
