The Angel Inn Heytesbury

We booked this hotel for it's proximity to Longleat. My room was a good size, with a perfectly adequate bathroom. However, the housekeeping fell short of what it should be. I shared the shower with a spider in it's web in the corner and there was a snail living above the toilet. Lots of thick cobwebs around the wardrobe in the bedroom. Generally shoddy cleaning. The radiator in the bedroom wasn't working, which made for a chilly room thanks to the draughty windows (yes it is an old building). Rooms reached via a steep, dark starcase. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was very good. Can't comment on breakfast as they started serving too late for us.

My mother hosted her 80th Birthday at The Angel. It surpassed expectations. The owners and staff were patient and kind in the run up and efficient and friendly on the big day. They put on a enormous buffet, which was greatly enjoyed by all 65 guests. Super, hidden pub terrace too for warmer days. It was excellent value for money. The Angel is a longstanding pub with several changes of ownership over the years; the most recent owners really deserve local support. I would definitely recommend this friendly welcoming country pub and we will definitely be booking a table for dinner in the near future.

It is so nice when the staff go out of their way to be helpful. There were three of us one of whom was blind, two had three couses and one had one. The vegan member throughly enjoyed his three courses ending with a coconut pannacota. Another member had lovely soup with a generous portion of bread and butter followed by a seafood linguine. The third member had a very good fish and chips. We shall be returning again.
