Duiker Game Lodge

Duiker Lodge is a must stay. The lodge is beautiful and everything you need. The staff are what made our stay unforgettable. Thank you for your personal touch, care and professionalism. We will be back to this gem.

My daughter and I had the best time at Duiker Game Lodge. The staff work incredibly well together. The small intimate lodge makes it the ideal getaway to feel properly relaxed as well as the perfect atmosphere to meet fellow travellers, both local and international alive. The game drives were great and informative.

We enjoyed the beautiful setting, the excellent game drives, great food and very good service. There were some challenges with the newly built chalets where we were initially accommodated.

We stayed at Duiker Lodge for two nights. The villas are stylishly decorated, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The lodge does not appear to have an onsite manager, so small issues are not noted or dealt with. The lodge felt as though it was being run on a shoe string budget, with a small number of staff covering a multitude of roles. On our first night we wanted to order a bottle of wine. The first three bottles were not available (despite being easily available at nearby supermarkets). In the end the barman simply brought 2 glasses of wine to eliminate any choice! It was not the wine I would have chosen but we were still charged for it. On the second night we wisely avoided the wine list. Three course dinner was included in the price. Whilst the food was nicely cooked, there was no choice at all. This is not what you expect for the price that is being charged and the image that the lodge portrays. We were the only guests, so it would not have been difficult to ask for food preferences before preparing the food. Having a cold starter available, a bread roll or even a tub of ice cream would have been a big improvement. Of our family of 4, only one person ate the dessert on each night. The same was true for the starter on the second night. There seemed to be no awareness of what type of food may be popular for a mixed age range group. The nearest shop was a 20 minute drive away so there were hungry children after dinner! As there was no manager at the lodge for our duration (or if there was, they didn't appear once, despite only having one set of guests) there was no one to flag this to. The staff were mostly exceptionally hard working but in need of guidance and support. The maid tidied the room but forgot to replenish the tea, coffee and water, again lack of management. Note that the pool is a plunge pool, rather than a swimming pool! To sum up, a beautiful lodge in a lovely setting, with animals roaming the grounds and friendly, hard working staff. However, let down by a lack of food choice and day to day management; not what you expect for the price being paid.

The staff of this place is exceptionally well-equipped and welcoming. Service is top notch. They just need to check toilet water as the supply is low otherwise the place is clean, food is AMAZING and it’s very quiet place to escape reality!! We are definitely coming back!

Accommodation facilities were wonderful & peaceful. The service was excellent and the staff friendly - as South Africans are! The three course dinners and buffet breakfasts were hearty and tasteful! Travelling with a baby can sometimes be challenging, but the team went above and beyond to accommodate us; that personal care meant the world to us, as first time parents. The lodge itself is beautiful, authentic, and wonderfully laid back – the perfect place to unwind. While it doesn’t have the Big 5, the game drive was still an absolute treat: relaxing, fun, and a great experience overall. Highly recommended for anyone looking for warm hospitality, great food, and a peaceful bush escape!
