Venabu Fjellhotell

A welcoming hotel offering excellent value for money. The food is outstanding, with 3 course set menu evening meals including a Norwegian speciality night on Wednesdays. The breakfast buffet is extensive with the option to prepare a generous packed lunch including sandwiches, salad, fruit, cake etc. The smoked trout in the breakfast buffet is sublime. Rooms are simple and the ensuite bathrooms are a little dated in appearance, but the showers are hot and powerful, the heating is effective and the views are stunning. The hotel has a very large lounge area with a wide range of board games, free access to a huge array of hot drinks, knitting wool, pool, table football etc. There is live music on some evenings. The ski hire on site is convenient and good quality, and the hotel provides access to a wide array of varied circular ski routes which are more than sufficient to keep you occupied for a week. I would definitely return!

We stayed at the Venabu Mountain Hotel for a week-long club Nordic ski trip with 19 persons and can't say enough good things about the Venabu hotel. The Venabu provides a full suite of services including full board including hot lunch, ski rentals, ski guiding, sleigh rides, yoga, evening music, evening cultural seminars and many more. The food was simply delicious and featured traditional Norwegian and local fare. The skis for rent were high performance and the ski guides added so much to our trip. They selected our daily tour considering the weather and conditions, the groups desires and other factors that so enhanced our skiing experience. The hotel also offers a bus pickup service to and from Oslo airport which greatly aided our getting to the hotel which is about 3 hours north of Oslo airport in a semi-remote area. The hotel also offers shuttle service to/from the local train station that is on the Oslo/Trondheim main line. The hotel has a spacious lobby for socializing, game room and lounge; plus a gift shop. The ski shop offers full ski maintenance services. The Venabu also offers off-track ski guiding and equipment which was spectacular and some of our participants thought was a special experience. And all this was offered at a good value.

Cosy hotel in beautiful location with simple, but clean and comfortable accommodation, lovely hot showers and underfloor heating in bathrooms. Plenty of space and comfy sofas to curl up with a book or some knitting, play board games, or just enjoy the views (and the interior decor is amazing). The food is excellent and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to the walking guides who did a brilliant job. An added bonus for me was having friendly cats and dogs around the place!

This place was such a positive surprise! Given the relatively low price I was positively surprised by the excellent quality of the food, the variety of facilities and activities on offer. The staff was super friendly and helpful and provided excellent service. We were there on s yoga and riding weekend and we had a fantastic time, I could not recommend this place more! Extra bonus for the cute reception dog comming over for cuddles when you are chilling in the common area

We stayed for a week at Venabu recently with family and friends, and had a wonderful time. As a group, we stayed in 2 cabins rather than in the hotel, and booked everything directly. The first thing to mention is that our flight to Oslo was cancelled at the last minute, and we had to take a later flight the same day. We ended up arriving at Venabu very late, after midnight. All the staff we contacted at Venabu, for advice, were super helpful, and someone stayed up late to show us to our cabins. We were also left provisions in the cabins - milk, bread, ham, cheese etc - as we'd missed dinner and the supermarket had closed hours before. It was really appreciated and made a big difference to the start of our holiday. Our cabin (Haugbu North) was cosy, warm and comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen. There were some minor flaws like a shortage of wardrobe space and the lack of any mirrors close to a plug socket (other than the bathroom), but these were just details and didn't affect our stay. Also perhaps the cabin would have benefitted from an additional bathroom - our cabin was for 7 people with one bathroom - but again that wasn't really a problem as there were only 3 of us! This was our first experience of cross country skiing and we really enjoyed it. The set up at Venabu is great and the trails start very close to the hotel. We had a private lesson on the first day, and did our own thing the other days. We also rented snowshoes from the hotel and had great fun exploring in the deep snow! Although we stayed in a cabin, we used some of the facilities at the hotel - the atmosphere felt very relaxed and every member of staff we encountered was so friendly. We loved the special Norwegian dinner on the Wednesday evening! Venabu is in a beautiful setting, and we came home feeling very relaxed and refreshed. We'd definitely like to return again in the future
