The Darnley Hotel

Had a two night stay and everything suited us. Location for the town is perfect with parking available on site. The pathway was a nice cut onto the main road and well lit when dark. The room was small but had all we needed for our stay. It was nice to have our room serviced each day. The hosts were great, providing information to help us with local restaurants and directions. All in all, we had a lovely weekend.

Just returned from a lovely break in Ilfracombe and our stay at the lovely Darnley hotel, Many thanks to the lovely hosts Paul & Lorinda who were so accommodating especially after I messed up our booking , we were literally on our way when I noticed that I'd booked wrong weekend, I obviously called in a panic but were very lucky that Lorinda changed our booking with no bother. Book breakfast with your booking as it's cheaper and well worth the money anyway, very fresh and delicious, a good start to the day. A short walk to the main street and a little longer but nice walk (provided you have no walking difficulties) to the harbour. I have had a recent hip replacement and managed to walk it with a lot of stops in between and got a taxi back. Its a beautiful walk if you can manage it. Have a fab time 😃

We went to the Darnley Hotel after receiving a two night getaway gift voucher for Christmas. Our room was on the ground floor by the front door, we were provided with a front door key aswell as a key to our room as the front door gets shut at 10pm. The room was of standard quality but very clean, it also had a ensuite, there was also plenty of room to put your clothes if you were to stay longer then 2 nights. There were few problems with the room, if you are of the larger build, like me and my husband. The bed was quite small for us both to fit in comfortably, and the shower cubicle was also very tight, you couldn't bend over to pick anything up if you dropped it in the shower, you could also hear people coming and going late at night as the door slams shut behind them. The lady on reception who greeted us and saw us go was very friendly, polite and came across very professional. It can be a bit tricky getting into the car park as its quite a narrow archway to try and get your car through especially if you have a large car. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely come back, but would ask for a different room.

My stay at the darnley hotel was amazing... the room was spotless the food was great and Paul and Lorinda were the perfect host friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I would recommend the hotel to Anyone with a family.

Bed was a little small but comfy owners very friendly can't comment on food as didn't have any although breakfast smelt lovely, parking a bit tight and limited.nice older house ,looked like there was a nice garden to the rear. We needed to use car to get down to shops etc as very a few steep hills and if your not that fit or Mobil car is definitely needed

A pleasant stay within easy reach of the town centre. The owners were rightly proud of the work they had done since taking over in 2016. Room was well equipped, breakfast was excellent. Information provided in advance was useful and accurate.

Had initially expected to stay last year for two nights using Red Letter Day gift cards but had to cancel due to having an operation. Lorinda was very kind and allowed the booking to be held over. On arrival allocated a ground floor room rather than having to climb two flights of stairs, which was very helpful. Restaurants in the area were listed and a shortcut through the garden if walking into town indicated by Lorinda. Although room was small there was plenty of storage space. Breakfast each morning was fruit juice and cereals, tea or coffee with a choice of full English or any combination of eggs, bacon and sausage plus toast, all freshly cooked and served by Paul and Lorinda. Overall a pleasant stay with pleasant conversations with Paul and other guests. Could have had an evening meal if we had booked in advance but decided to eat in town.

The room was spacious and well presented with all facilities needed. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is excellent being close to all amenities. Would certainly book again.

Warm welcome, large comfortable room and a good night’s sleep on comfortable beds. Good choice of breakfasts. All you could ask for and excellent value. Magnificent old building, well decorated and everything very clean. Paul and Lorinda made our stay in Ilfracombe most enjoyable, lots of helpful information about the town, what’s on and where to eat. Recommend Giovanni & Lucas (Italian) and Smugglers down by the harbour. That’s about a mile from the hotel and if you don’t fancy walking back, take a taxi for £4 which is a lot less than we would have paid for parking.
