Not the right weather to be outside? Grab your beverage and a blanket and cozy up inside to play cribbage while watching the flames flicker in the pellet stove. This place has something for everyone!Your choice of activities is endless depending on the season. Immediately around the cabin is hiking, Rapid River Cross Country Trails for skiing/snowshoeing, waterfalls to explore, bird hunting, and ORV/snowmobile trails. Driving south 5 minutes gets you to the shores of Little Bay de Noc for fantastic fishing and beaches. Driving northeast 30 minutes gets you to the shores of Lake Superior in the town of Munising, where the sights and activities of Pictured Rocks greets you. The abundance and access to waterfalls both in the summer and winter is fantastic. Don't forget about the ice fishing! I could go on but you get the point! A short 5 minute drive into the local town of Rapid River offers you your basic convinces like restaurants, bars, gas, and basic grocery. A 20 minute drive takes you into Escanaba for anything you could want, from downtown shopping to modern name brand stores. The cabin is nicely equipped with all of the conveniences you would expect at home. From a fully stocked kitchen to sheets on the bed and fresh towels in the bathroom. Even a washer and dryer is there for your use! Also included is a 36" blackstone griddle and a pellet grill/smoker for those tasty homemade meals. You enter the cabin into a mudroom that is perfect for storing your extra gear and overstock. The mudroom stores the grill and smoker as well as an extra fridge. It is heated separately by an electric baseboard heater giving you a great place to dry your outdoor gear. The yard is very spacious with outside lighting for after hours games. The firepit can be moved around and all firewood is included, but please be respectful on the amount you use. The cabin is constantly undergoing updates and improvements as it is our personal family getaway. The cabin has four bedrooms with the back two bedrooms accessed from the front ones. One bedroom has two sets of bunk beds, and the other two bedrooms have a pair of single twins. Enough beds for 9/10 people or two separate families! There is one full bath with a spacious shower and a second toilet in the mechanical room. The outside of the cabin may look modern with siding and a metal roof, but the cabin walls are covered in knotty pine and rustic decor, and the inside is full of years of memories. The Hornets Nest Lodge, is a brand new lodge built in 2018 fondly Named in honor of our grandfather Harvey J Potvin, who was a UP woodsman for over 80 years. This beautiful lodge is nestled in the quiet serene woods near the Hiawatha National Forest. If you are looking to get away as a family, a ATV/Snowmobile enthusiast, a group gathered together to get their hunt on, or friends looking to spend some quality time in the peaceful Upper Peninsula, then this lodge is exactly what your looking for. We are 2 brothers who have been passionate about this land, trying to recreate our childhood camp experiences. We have many memories growing up visiting grandpa, and recently decided it was time to rebuild the old homestead of our past and make it more comfortable, accessible, and to allow others to come into our home to make their own memories. The Hornets Nest Lodge is centrally located in the Upper Peninsula. Its location puts you only a 10 minute drive to Lake Michigan, or a 45 minute drive to Lake Superior. It is adjacent to tens of thousands of acres of Hiawatha National Forest Land, a hand full of miles from the ATV/snowmobile trail head, and across the highway from one of the best Nordic ski, skate, snowshoe trails in Upper Michigan. The Lodge is approximately 3000 square feet of living space, decorated with a modern rustic theme. All furniture, cookware, beds/bedding linens are all brand new. Also the lodge features over 2000 sq feet of patio and deck, to sit out side and enjoy the peaceful afternoons watching the wildlife of the area, or sitting out and taking in the "Big Sky" at night. Features inside the lodge are 2 living areas with a big screen TV's, equipped with satellite TV, cell booster, and WiFi. Poker table, 2 full size refrigerators, fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, gas fire place, and 2 full bathrooms. Outside the lodge there is ample parking for vehicles with trailers with a circle drive, plenty of outdoor furniture and propane gas grill. If your group exceeds the comfort of our 14 person capacity, please inquire about additional camper hook up for a small fee. So come, relax, and explore all the U.P. has to offer. Our cottage is centrally located with easy access to many U.P. destinations. Nearby you will find beaches, Fayette State Park, boat launches, trails, local restaurants, wineries and breweries. You can also set off on day adventures to Kitch-itikipi (Big Springs), Pictured Rocks (Munising), Eben Ice Caves, Marquette, Grand Marais and more! There is no shortage of things to do and see in the area. Also, the Kipling and Rapid River boat launches, bait shops, and ice fishing rentals are located just a few miles away for easy access and gear. Coming to fish? We are located at the head of the bay where 4 rivers meet (Whitefish River, Rapid River, Days River, Tacoosh River). You can fish for Walleye, Perch, Pike, Blue Gill, Bass and more. Direct access on site ice fishing, and dock access in summer months. We have a heated fish house for you to be able to clean your fish with plenty of room for everyone.
