The private bathroom has a shower and new vanity with a stone countertop. There is a TV mounted over the electric fireplace and free high-speed wireless internet.What you can experience at the stable: Daily feedings of the horses, ponies, cows, and chickens; gathering of the chicken eggs; the animals strolling out to their pastures in the morning and returning to their stalls each evening, mucking stalls, feeding treats, playing with the cats, petting the animals. If you prefer, room darkening curtains to the living quarters can be pulled to provide privacy. The stable animals are awake and expecting their first feeding around 7 am. We will be as quiet as possible! Please note the living quarters are attached to the stable and you may hear some activity. The shoreline consists of massive, flat limestone slabs and these limestone ledges extend into the water for appx 40 feet, making it a hot spot for a variety of water birds - the pelicans are one of our favorites! It's quite amazing to watch!Guest accessYou'll have access to the entire house and property with exception to our owners closet that is located between the kitchen and south master bathroom.(This will be the only locked door in the house)For security reasons we have exterior security cameras located on the front and back entrances. Other things to noteWe are so proud to have our home ready for you to enjoy! But please keep in mind that this is new construction, and an unconventional build, so some things are still developing and/or presenting themselves as the house settles. We are discovering that being situated at the base of a cliff can present challenges during wet season and heavy rains. During these times, continuous runoff from the slope settles in the back yard (Door County is part of the Niagara Escarpment, which is situated atop limestone bedrock) so we are exploring solutions - but want you to be aware that there could be standing water in the grassy areas. Please use caution or you may end up with a pair of muddy shoes (or paws). Same thing with the roof - as it is an earth covered home, it will take time for us to determine the best covering (native wildflowers/weeds vs grasses vs perennials, etc…) We were just happy to have green….(and weeds are green LOL). We’re working towards planting or reseeding the patchy areas that fell victim to runoff and will eventually incorporate beautiful flowers and ground cover to finish the look off. Hopefully you understand that it’s a work in progress! Occasionally wildlife likes to forage onto the structure because to them, it looks like another part of the landscape, but until it’s established, this can cause external & internal damages as well, so please let us know if you notice anything that seems off (or more so something NEW that develops while your there, as we’re likely aware of anything that is present prior to your arrival and working on getting it fixed)! Oh, the joys of an earth covered home are magical but can be a challenge to figure out because of its uniqueness! PLEASE NOTE: The house is in a secluded and remote area, surrounded by trees and water (Door County is a Peninsula after all 😊). In this setting there will be all things related to nature, like wildlife, potentially poisonous plants, and insects (including spiders)**We recommend that anyone with insect/spider sensitivities or phobias consider a more urban setting where nature does not so easily encroach. Located on the lower grounds of the property with a view of the woods and creek (April-July), the suite has a private entrance, parking for two standard vehicles. Free WIFI. Lily Bay Creek is an ephemeral waterway that begins its flow in early April with the melting of snow and is also spring fed. At the homestead, the creek opens wide to create a large pond and as the summer progresses the pond plants absorb the water to become a wetland. By mid-July, the water is nearly entirely absorbed into a lush green zone. The creek and surrounding woods host a variety of wildlife including deer, coyote, sandhill crane, wood duck, ground fowl and even experiences an early spring sucker fish spawning.It is the permanent residence of Helen del Guidice, who serves as the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at Miller Art Museum in downtown Sturgeon Bay.
