Chital Lodge

We spent 4 nights at Chital Lodge with Bishnu and his lovely family and had some unforgettable days of safari in the park with Bishnu as our guide. The best way to experience the park is without doubt to hike a full day through the tropical and subtropical forests. Boating along the river watching crocodiles and crossing rivers barefooted with small fishes swimming around you. We saw lots of tracks from Bengal Tigers but “only” managed to spot one, while we saw many one-horned Rhinos even close. One word of advice: it is not risk free to walk around a park with wild animals (it is not a zoo) and should you choose to do it I can definitely recommend using an experienced and knowledgeable guide like Bishnu, that knows the park as his own pocket and has a great knowledge about every aspect of the life in the park. Chital Lodge also offers jeep safari which is a nice addition when your feet and legs are worn out :) The lodge itself is a bit primitive which is also reflected in the price tag but the sheets are clean, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food is homemade, homegrown and delicious. Will definitely visit again if I get the chance!

If you want to have a true experience of the Chitwan National Park with the best local guide who is passionate about the jungle and has a ton of knowledge about the wildlife, then this is the best place for you! Bishnu (the owner of the lodge and guide) is truly amazing! He started answering any questions I had even before I arrived at the area. His wife and his kids are truly adorable and they made me feel like being at home. I went with Bishnu in a half day jeep safari and a full day walking (and boat) safari, as well as some other activities like bird watching. Even if we were not lucky enough to see a tiger, we saw many rhinos, deers and monkeys! Bishnu knows every corner of the forest and he was explaining to us every detail and answering any questions we had. While other guides may show you only the basics without putting much effort, Bishnu is trying his best to find the best spots in the jungle so that the guests could have the greatest experience! One day of my 3 days stay, I was the only guest and Bishnu arranged extra activities especially for me so as not to get bored! Last but not least, the food was fresh and homemade, and it was the best food I had in Nepal! These 3 days full of adventure and great hospitality, was the best part of my trip in Nepal and makes me want to visit Nepal and Bishnu again in the future for sure! Bishnu and your family, thank you for everything!

My stay in Chital Lodge in Megahauli, hosted by Bishnu and Saoru, was amazing. Although I enjoyed my walking safaris near Sauraha as well, I do wish I had simply spent all my time here near Megahauli. Less known and touristic, beautiful and just as wildlife-rich area of the national park. The safaris are guided by the host Bishnu who clearly lives and breaths the natural world of Chitwan. Bishnu and Manoj were amazing guides who put up with monsoonal rain, heat, and bugs to help me see many rhinos, monitor lizards, great hornbills, and, lucky enough, even a tiger! And way more. And as a huge plus, Saoru is another very kind host and a wonderful cook. The lodge is clean and pleasant, I added an extra night just to relax there. If I return to Nepal, Chital Lodge will be a place I revisit. Grateful to have found this beautiful gem.

Bishnu and his family were the most wonderful hosts and guides. Bishnu is hugely passionate about animals, and it was evident throughout both our jeep and walking tours. He is an expert - he knew so many details about each and every animal. The care and diligence with which he led his tours was also so abundant -- he took us to innumerous different spots throughout the national park and listened carefully to the animals to track their movements so that we could have some unforgettable animal spottings and experiences. He spent extra time tracking animals, late into the day, to ensure the most memorable experience for us. Additionally, these are the best people -- Bishnu and his family were so welcoming and friendly, we enjoyed our conversations with them immensely. Bishnu inherited the lodge from his father and the pride and passion he has for nature is so very evident, and it was this passion for nature he shared with us. We feel honored and grateful that this was apart of our travels. Thank you for such a memorable and spectacular stay. We can't thank you all enough.

Bishnu and Saru create a home away from home with first rate hospitality and knowledge of the area. Although the accommodation is “rustic”, the beds are comfortable and the showers are hot. Each room has mosquito netting too. You feel like you are living a Nepalese experience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided and since Bishnu worked overseas in a restaurant In Dubai, the food is excellent with large portions. We started our day with the village walking tour for which we learned about the flora, fauna and farm life (agricultural knowledge was great too) of the local area. The villagers were friendly and very happy to have you there. After we went on a jeep safari in a local forest. Bishnu took his time finding animals and sharing his knowledge. We had to work hard and be patient to see a wild rhino and baby as we needed to track them through the tall grasses. Without Bishnu’s experience along with the driver we would have missed this amazing experience. Just be mindful this is a rustic family experience in a beautiful village. This is not 5 star hotel but definitely a five experience.

We hebben 5 nachten in deze lodge gelogeerd en iedere dag was weer top! Alles wat we met Bishnu ondernomen hebben was de moeite waard. Groot kenner van de natuur. Weet waar de grootste kans is op wild en gaat tot het uiterste om zijn klanten te geven waar ze voor komen. Daarnaast is het een fijne plek om te logeren. Vlak naast de lodge stroomt een riviertje. Heerlijk om af te koelen. Bishnu's vrouw kookt heerlijk! Momo's lijken haar specialiteit 🙂 Prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is top. Kan deze lodge met familie allen maar aanbevelen.
