Hotel & Spa GINKGO - Quimper

It is the first so called 4 star hotel with poor quality bed sheets,monster pillows, cheap cardboard cups, no fridge in the room. The only food you can have is some Lasagne from the micro wave. Give it 3 stars at the maximum , even as an hotel guest you have to pay 35 Euro to enter the spa

The hotel is in a lovely old building. The rooms are modern, but definitely not four stars. I had a junior suite which was utilitarian. The sloping roof made it impossible to see the river or even stand up in most of the room. The chairs were beanbag chairs. Staff were helpful enough. The breakfast which had been posted for €10 was billed to me at € 20. It’s away from the main part of town so not much to do within walking distance.

This privately owned hotel is in a quiet and unique part of Quimper, 10 minutes maximum walking distance along the river Odet from the town centre. It is a beautifully converted listed building with spacious rooms in the main building and compact split-level accommodation in a row of 6 small adjacent 'houses'. The owners have tastefully decorated everywhere combining modern art works with very comfortable furnishings. We spent 5 nights in a suite, the bed was fabulous and housekeeping was amazing! Warm thanks to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable. The owners were very present and everyone was friendly and helpful. There is no bar or restaurant (2 bars and 2 restaurants very close!) but a selection of drinks can be served in the lounge. One evening we ordered a platter of cheese and charcuterie to eat in our room - wow! Breakfast is tasty and very well presented, "full English" is not offered but not needed when freshly scrambled eggs can be enjoyed if the fruits, pastries, breads etc. are not enough! There is a private car park and a spacious outdoor area which must be delightful in warm weather.

I am a frequent traveller and know well the French standards. I was very surprised that this hotel was given 4 stars. My room (the “standard” one) was very poor in terms of layout (very uncomfortable on two floors - and there are NO PICTURES of this on the website, only of higher standard rooms) and available towels, soap, etc. For me it was like being in a single 2-star room. Probably the huge difference between standard and best rooms should be better communicated, I would have changed gladly my room or even better booked directly a better one. However the cost and the 4-star qualification for sure do not match with the level of the standard rooms. Also, I seldom make reviews and when I read the many good ones about this hotel, I would bet them to be made addressing the superior or best rooms, for sure not the standard ones. I also note that the owner/manager does not like comments (there are many, similar to this, and probably this is due to the very low level of standard rooms) and tend to reply in a fancy manner being aggressive and taking it personally against the clients who make these reviews mainly to help with a better standard. I must add that I had already noted also the owner/manager to be very rude and dismissive with another client’s claim during my stay. She was a lady and he made a very “machista” comment to the reception person whi had got the claim. Very bad behavior in my view. I think that a respectful behavior and good manners should be a prerequisite to “hotellerie”… So I suggest the French people/entities who attribute stars and Tripadvisor to review this hotel (at least as regards the way standard rooms are made and furnished); the owner to communicate more transparently and honestly with pictures the real (poor, 2-star) level of such rooms; and again the owner to learn from his colleagues how to treat clients and their views with respect.

Je retrouve l'hôtel deux ans après ma 1e visite et c'est toujours excellent, de l'accueil, attentionné et courtois, à la chambre, impeccablement propre et confortable; la literie est parfaite;de la chambre, je suis passé cette fois à la suite junior n°3; certes, j'ai perdu la vue sur l'Odet, mais au gagné un superbe bureau où il fait bon travailler (je suis en déplacement professionnel). Le PDJ et très complet et de belle qualité; l'ensemble de l'établissement respire le calme et la sérénité; le personnel est attentif et le séjour idéal; tout cela donne envie d'y revenir, en vacances, cette fois (je serai désormais à la retraite!). Le petit déjeuner était vraiment quelconque pour le prix demandé (20€). Le service est minimum et la satisfaction client n’est certes pas la priorité de cet établissement. Nous nous sommes fait fraîchement rembarrés par la personne de service puis la directrice pour avoir osé quémander un œuf coque ! D’après cette dame autoritaire, Il fallait nous contenter des omelettes séchées qui attendaient le client depuis déjà deux heures. La chambre 1 au rez de chaussée était grande mais décorée sans aucune âme .Pas d’eau minérale en bouteille mais de l’eau de ville simplement filtrée. La salle de bains spartiate est dotée de seulement une douche sans porte et d’un seul lavabo . Inondation garantie ! Pas d’échantillons. La fenêtre donne sur la rue à hauteur d’homme. Impossible de la garder ouverte pour des raisons évidentes de sécurité et de bruit. La situation de l’hôtel est idéale et le parking facile mais absolument rien de justifie quatre étoiles pour cet établissement. Le tarif appliqué est totalement abusif. Quel dommage !
