It has an enclosed glass shower/tub, large vanity, and built-in storage. We have a full size sink in the cabin, with a foot pump and faucet for water. There is a propane stove and enough pots/pans/basics to cook whatever you want. There is no refrigerator; there is a cooler for your ice and perishables. (Yes, we have a coffee grinder.) The direct vent propane heater is easy to use and super warm. The wood stove stays warm all night too. In the summer, a breeze off the 3,100-foot mountain behind us keeps the container cool, and fire flies and crickets in the field will lull you to sleep.Staying in the cabin is an experience, not a simple overnight. There is something very special about it and this property. You won't want to go to sleep watching shooting stars from the deck on a summer night. On a 20-degree afternoon in the middle of a blizzard, it is 80 degrees and silent inside. Eight guests have gotten engaged here. (All said "yes!") Another guest chopped his bundle of wood into 1,000 toothpick-sized pieces thinking that the fire would burn longer and hotter that way. (It does not.)There are streams and cliffs and tons of wildlife on the property. Owls and red-shouldered hawks soar above the forest cabin, as well as fireflies in the summer. Deer graze in the field and woods and eagles visit now and then. This place was built for two, but it can fit four. Two adults and two kids is perfect. The sitting area in the cabin is elevated with an L-shaped Ikea Friheten sofa (bedroom has a traditional bed) opposite two contiguous 5'x5' windows to stare at the forest and wildlife. The writing desk is an original Mohonk House secretary. High-efficiency insulated walls and low-energy windows keep the cabin warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There is a refrigerator with a freezer box. The bedroom is like a nature capsule with a 7'x7' picture window at the foot of the bed and a 7'x8' sliding glass door on the south wall.Staying in the cabin is an experience, not a simple overnight. We are on the side of Kaaterskill High Peak and have tons of wildlife on the property. (Listen for the barred owls at night!)All guests are left with 15 gallons of filtered potable drinking water. (The sink uses a foot pump.) There are drawers under the bed for clothes, room in the bedroom for a crib or pack-and-play, and a mudroom for jackets, shoes and backpacks. No smoking inside, please, plenty of room to smoke on the deck outside...We have a cell signal booster in the cabin, so service is good. The Sanctuary @ Clove Church is where rustic meets modern in a one-of-a-kind 1890'a church house, perfectly situated where the Catskills meet the Hudson River Valley. Warm yourself next to the wood stove as you watch bright colored light dance across the room from the original stained glass windows. After shooting a few hoops on the indoor basketball hoop (!), relax your muscles by sitting in the infrared sauna. In Summer head outside to enjoy smores around a fire pit under a starry sky.The space:The house consists of two distinct areas. The first is a large 3 season open area with a basketball hoop, heavy bag, infrared sauna and a separate yoga/meditation room. You can even hook up your relaxing playlist to the sauna's built in speakers. The other area is the main living space consisting of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, country kitchen, dining area and office nook. One of the bedrooms with queen bed is located on the ground level. The other 3 bedrooms are upstairs with two having their own entrance which are connected by a large room with twin-over-full bunkbeds (perfect for families). The master bedroom has a king bed and the other bedroom has a double bed and desk. The upstairs bathroom is, quite simply, a work of art with amazing tile work in an large, albeit quirky, open plan bathroom. The downstairs bathroom has unique stone floors taken from the onsite quarry and a rustic wood framed bathtub and sink. The cozy living room has a roaring hot wood stove where you can relax reading a book or enjoy watching the Alexa enabled TV with Netflix, Amazon, etc apps included. Outside you have a raised flat yard with a tree swing, chairs surrounding a fire pit and loungers to enjoy the mountain views by day and star filled skies at night. The Annex, located next to The Sanctuary, is also available to rent. Please message to inquire about renting both properties.Location:The location of The Annex could not be more ideal. It's the perfect home base to explore the Catskills and Hudson Valley. The nearest grocery store is 3.4 miles (7 minutes). 2 miles away is the surreal Opus 40 sculpture park that features live music picnics in spring, summer and fall. Everyone knows the name "Woodstock" but this cute picturesque town is more than tie-dye and great local music. It's home to some of the best upstate restaurants including mind blowing cuisine of Red Onion, Silvia and Cucina, as well as the quaint Brooklyn-esque vibe of Shindig. Not to be slept on, Saugerties has it's own stand out restaurants including Miss Lucy's Kitchen, Black Eyed Suzie's and The Dutch Ale House to name a few. If hiking and being outdoors is your thing (of course it is!) then head out to the endless amount of hiking trails the Catskills has to offer. Very nearby are Overlook Mountain and Indian Head Wilderness that has some of the most beautiful scenery in NY State. Just a short 10 minute drive , you can explore beautiful Hudson River Valley where you'll find the unique Saugerties Light House. In addition from May-Sept, Saugerties is home to the hugely popular HITS equestrian series featuring the nation's best riders. In winter strap on snow shoes or head up to ski Hunter Mountain which is a mere 30 minute drive or 40 minutes to Windham. If that's not enough, the super happening city of Kingston is 20 minutes by car. A sudden influx of renowned chefs has put this city on the map that already has an array of hip coffee shops, chic home design shops like Exit 19 and antique stores galore. Grab a table at the innovative newish restaurant Wilde Beest, then stroll over to Stockade Tavern to sip on cocktails mixed by absolute geniuses. And I have yet to mention live music. In the mornings sunrises filter through the Red American Oak and Shagbark Hickory trees, growing down a forest embankment leading to Plattekill Creek with a bridle path along it for secluded walks. You'll see deer and foxes and chipmunks scurrying around and the occasional black bear lumbering around. We have very fast wi-fi and one of the 3 bedrooms also serves as a great place to work remotely while looking out at the mountain view. We just renovated the whole house and it has a fabulous kitchen and living space, and a state of the art induction stove. We are solar powered and use no fossil fuels for cooking or heat, and we're connected to the electric grid so there is never a shortage of electricity but in fact we generate enough power with our solar array that we are mostly feeding the grid.The master bathroom is a beautiful bright space lined with Portuguese tiles, a lovely place to soak in the tub or the glass shower while looking out the window at the forest.We are on a quiet country road that makes for easy walks, but there are many trails in the area including the remarkable Sloan Gorge. The renowned Opus 40 sculpture park is 5 minutes away. Also the wonderful Smokehouse of the Catskills is a 5-minute drive. Also kayaking and skiing are activities you can enjoy in the area.There are several great restaurants in Saugerties and Woodstock that you will find in our guidebook at the house.Big Blue is only 10 minutes to Exit 20 on the NY State Thruway (I-87), 10 minutes to downtown Saugerties, 12 minutes to downtown Woodstock, 30 minutes to Hunter Mountain Resort, Rhinecliff Amtrak Station is 25 minutes away and there is taxi service from the station. Amtrak train departs NY Penn Station, arriving in Rhinecliff (approx. 1h45mins).
