The Silk Rooms, at the Freemasons Inn

The room itself is decorated very nicely and parking was convenient and free after 6.00pm just outside the property. However for the price it is missing some little extras like a bottle of water. They ask you do not eat in the room itself which is was inconvenient for us as we booked the room for an overnight before we flew on vacation and it would have been nice to just get a takeaway and settle into the room instead of having to go out to eat. In summary they are nice rooms but overpriced for the facilities in my opinion.

Great location beautiful room and shower, id like to make a couple of suggestions. Set of drawers needed as no storage apart from a shelf and 6 hangers, had to live out of suitcase for the weekend, ironing board and a small fridge then the place would be perfect. Great for parking less than 1 minute walk to everything you need. Hostess excellent

We stayed one night here (room 3) and couldn’t fault it massively, the location was perfect. The bathroom was a beautiful feature, as you can see from the photos. Bed was super comfy, everything was pretty straight forward. We really enjoyed it and will be back! The only negatives i have are how thin the walls are, and it seemed to be quite dusty.

The room is tastefully decorated (Room 3) and the luxury bathroom is large. The bed is large and very comfortable. The location is superb in the heart of Knutsford. However, there are a few issues. No dedicated parking. The public car park directly opposite is for 4 hours only so do not arrive in Knutsford before 2pm. (Free 1800-0800). The lighting in the bedroom is too dark for reading. There is a small ledge to perch a small laptop and a table but these would not be comfortable if you needed to do a few hours work. The greatest thing that needs attention is some “Mind your head” signs on the low door frames and white/*****ed edging on the black slate steps at the bottom of the metal staircase. There’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. No fridge and no breakfast. £170 a night is too much but still a very decent place to stay.

Rooms finished to a very high standard. My photos would be exactly the same as the website images. Will definitely stay again. This is a luxury AirB&B without the Breakfast. Theresa’s a kettle and. Nespresso-ish machine in the room. The location is great, with a large municipal carpark outside that’s free overnight. Sound proofing could be improved between rooms, but especially out to the street where very early morning garbage trucks, restaurants recycling woke me up. The freestanding bath was a treat, but those with mobility issues should note that it’s very high sided. The shower is perfect for those with lower mobility. Lastly the Yale motion sensor positioned at eye level had an annoying light that flashed continuously. A sock solved this.

In their post-booking email response to me, the owners say ‘we value your feedback and…would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment to share your experience with others by leaving a review’. So here goes: The Silk Rooms at the Freemason’s Inn are clearly the product of a lot of careful, expensive design and restoration work. But behind the ‘hint of contemporary rustic’, the artful additions of ceramics and old books enhanced by Farron and Ball décor, their description is fundamentally misleading. The Rooms’ very name specifically suggests that they are part of a familiar ‘pubs with rooms’ establishment stating that their ‘boutique ensuite bedrooms’ are ‘located above the Freemasons Inn’ (even though the site is closed for refurbishment). In fact they are nothing of the sort, merely an expensive, unserviced room-only rental. That would be fine for a single stay but for more, having to pay £165 per night to make our own bed, wash up our cups and glasses and with no fresh towels is not our idea of good value. Furthermore, although the building ‘has been re-awakened with its heritage in mind’, further attention to detail was also sadly missing. There was only one saucer and insufficient milk for two people for two days in our room, while the single hand towel plus a dead and dessicated fern in the bathroom summed up our whole unfortunate experience. Moreover the security light outside our dark entry door didn’t work, the stylish metal checker-plate stairs were very slippery in the rain and one night’s sleep was interrupted by drunken shouting from the car park directly outside. All in all, our stay at The Silk Rooms was a disappointing end to an otherwise enjoyable first-time visit to the lovely Cheshire area.

Lived the room, everything felt very high quality and the bed was really comfortable. Everything was clean and well presented.

Restful stay in clean recently renovated, atmospheric rooms in centre of pretty Knutsford. Huge superking bed with lovely walk in shower en-suite. Housekeeper, Richard was very friendly and helpful.

Really lovely room with a very luxurious bathtub and separate walk-in shower. The restaurant was closed for renovation (Sept 2023) but there are a dozen others to chose from within a few hundred yards, plus a Waitrose with a great bakery (breakfast sorted), a Coop, and a Sainsbury all within 2 minutes walk.
