Stayed at Trenython Manor for two nights as a birthday getaway. While the location is absolutely lovely — close to several charming pubs, restaurants, and beaches, and only about 15 minutes from the Eden Project — the stay itself was a bit of a mixed bag. Due to limited availability when booking, we ended up in a family room. It’s great for those with kids, featuring a double bedroom and a separate room with bunk beds. However, there were a few drawbacks. The bathroom was functional, but the bath was very shallow, and the towel rail was constantly hot — which felt quite unsafe, especially in a family-oriented room. The bedroom doors were heavy fire doors that I found difficult to open, and we were located on the second floor — which, because of the high ceilings, felt more like the third or fourth — with no lift access. The room was up in the rafters, likely part of the old servant quarters, with slanted ceilings that aren’t ideal for taller guests. The old-style windows barely opened, and one rattled in the wind, so we had to wedge paper into it to stop the noise. The view was mostly blocked by a high wall right outside the window, which was a bit disappointing. Also, there was a lack of bedside power outlets. That said, the TV was great for unwinding, with access to all the major streaming apps. Parking is limited right outside the hotel and is intended only for loading/unloading. The main car park is a short walk away, which wasn’t too bad for us, but worth noting for anyone with mobility issues or lots of luggage. The leisure facilities were a definite highlight — pool, steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi were all clean and enjoyable, and they even have mini spin-dryers for your swimwear. Just note that guests need to book sessions in advance. It wasn’t an issue for us (midweek and off-season — we even got to extend into a second session), but I imagine it could get crowded during peak times. The hotel advertises two pools and two jacuzzis, though we only saw one of each. I also had a massage at the on-site spa, and the therapist was lovely and did a fantastic job — a real highlight of the stay. Overall, it’s a beautiful spot with great amenities and an ideal location for exploring the area. However, a few room-related and access issues did take away from the overall experience. With a few updates, this could be a fantastic place to stay.
