Hotel Saigerhöh – Mixed Feelings Our experience at Hotel Saigerhöh left us with mixed feelings, but I’ll try to describe it as accurately as possible. From the moment we arrived, things felt a bit off. The hotel is located at the end of a dead-end street, past a football field and a small construction site, surrounded by a bit of forest and perched on top of a hill. While the view over the valley from the hotel is indeed stunning, the building itself and its architectural style are rather uninspiring. Upon arrival, we were offered a welcome drink on a small, half-covered terrace—which also serves as the hotel's main smoking area. I understand that smoking is still relatively common in Germany, but we stayed there for no more than five minutes. When I told the reception staff I didn’t want to sit among smokers and asked if this was a usual practice, they seemed quite puzzled by the question. The hotel is large and spread across both sides of the street, connected by underground tunnels. We were given a short tour by a student worker, which was helpful. Our room was very spacious but extremely dated—the decor felt like it hadn’t changed since my grandmother’s time. It was hard to feel comfortable in it. The bathroom, however, had been recently renovated, so I suspect not all rooms have been updated yet. The wellness area is appreciated and has potential, but given the available space, more could certainly be done with it. In the evening, we went for a drink at the bar. Despite there being only three tables with guests, the bartender still managed to take over 30 minutes to serve us two drinks. We had dinner at the hotel only once (at €60 per person), and it was a real disappointment. While the dishes were nicely presented, the quality was far below what you’d expect from a 4-star hotel. The risotto, for instance, was unpleasant and far too salty. The fish was supposedly filleted but had not been cleaned properly—basic mistakes. This lack of quality was also noticeable in the service during both dinner and breakfast. The restaurant staff seemed uncoordinated and lost, with no clear supervision. At one point, our dessert was served to the wrong table, taken back to the kitchen, and then brought to us—by then, the sorbet was completely melted. That was the final straw for us. We decided to eat elsewhere for the remaining four nights. Interestingly, it seemed others had the same idea, as the hotel staff were actively encouraging guests at breakfast to reserve for dinner, even passing around a form to select your meal in advance. Breakfast itself was fairly extensive, but again, not up to 4-star standards. Food wasn’t fresh or properly presented—low-quality salmon, sour "freshly cut" fruit, etc. Also, finding a table on the terrace was a bit of a battle, as there weren’t enough of them. The only real highlights of the hotel were the wellness area and the view. Aside from that, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, and I won’t be returning.

Was our first visit To the Schwarz Wald and decided for a hotel with outside pool, was going to be excellent weather. Arrived at the hotel where we immediately received a welcome drink and a small guided tour. Young staff but well trained and very friendly. Room was nice, ground floor, garden view with outside terrace including seats. Some further highlights: Amazing breakfast with large variety of fresh fruits, cheese, eggs all you can eat, heated outside pool must cost a fortune to heath, dinner was brilliant, compliments to the cook and team, older Turkish waiter is also very friendly. Well all staff is friendly, surely the lady in charge in restaurant but also the lady on the reception, thanks for coffee at 7.30 in the morning. Evening menu always nicely balanced. Lowlights, noting I can think off. Extremely nice place.

Tolle Aussicht, schönes Zimmer inkl. Bad. Matratze für mich leider zu hart (Federkernmatratze?) Essen ist sehr lecker, wird auf Unverträglichkeiten etc. eingegangen. Etwas komisch hingegen wenn man beim Frühstück das Abendessen auslesen muss. Frühstücksbuffet super. Mittagsbuffet sehr iritierend, da relativ klein und alles nur in kleinen Gläsern bereitgestellt ist. Dort wird nicht auf Unverträglichkeiten Rücksicht genommen wie z. B. Laktoseunverträglichkeit. 5 Gang Abendmenue sehr lecker, kleine Auswahl der verschiedenen Gänge möglich. Ala Cart essen ist sehr teuer und muss zusätzlich gezahlt werden. Salat als Vorspeise, Hauptspeise und ein Dessert das das gleiche war wie vom 5 Gänge Menue musste mit 12€ bezahlt werden. Insgesamt für zwei Personen 90€. Was insgesamt sehr irritierend war, ist das jegliches Getränk bezahlt werden muss. 0,7 dl Wasser kosten 6 €. Lediglich im Spabereich gab es Tee und Wasser ohne Bezahlung. Zusätzlich etwas Obst. Leider wird dies mit den Getränken nirgendwo erwähnt. Das ist ein grosser zusätzkicher finanzieller Punkt. Der Innenpool war zu kalt. Niemals 31 Grad wie im Aussenpool. In der Textilsauna sassen oftmals Personen ohne Kleider da. Saunabereich klein aber fein. Leider keine Möglichkeit sich ungestört umzuziehen. Am Vorabend wurde wohl der Innenpool privat gemietet. Die Gläser, Sektflasche und Kühler standen am Nachmittag noch immer da. Gästekarte wurde uns wohl vergessen auszuhändigen. Keine Hotelführung, wussten erst am letzten Tag, dass es noch ein Spielzimmer mit Billard etc gab. Personal grundsätzlich sehr freundlich. Wussten aber teils nicht, warum wir beim Dessert kein Eis erhielten obwohl es auf der Karte stand. Kollegin hatte Geburtstag, da wurde zum Frühstück ein Tisch reserviert, nett dekoriert und ein kleiner Kuchen mit einer Kerze gebracht. Ein kurzes HappyBirthday wurde auch von der Kellnerin gesungen. Danke dafür. Am Schluss bekamen wir noch eine Flasche Wein oder so… hingegen wurde nicht mal gefragt ob der Aufenthalt gefallen habe etc. Bezahlen und Ade. Grundsätzlich ein tolles Hotel. Wir werden aber aufgrund des massiven Aufpreises der Getränke nicht mehr kommen. Was zunächst etwas günstiger als bei anderen Hotels aussah, entpuppte sich als wesentlich teurer als bei anderen wo Getränke inkludiert (ausser Alkohol natürlich) sind.
