The Star Inn

This was a most disappointing stay. I stay in a lot of inns but this was the worst I have experienced ever. Although it appeared clean and presentable, the room was basic in amenities. No bed side table. The USB socket didn't work and the Wifi didn't work. There was nowhere to put my suitcase and no chair. The bathroom was the most basic ever. No towel rail and a shelf unit over the basin which looked as though it was bought in a car boot sale. The shower was very old and although hot water came through it was at least 20+ years old and the majority of the holes in the head were blocked. The fan took at least 20 minutes to go off which was a real annoyance. The bath towels were ridiculously small. Dinner was not good either. I thought I would have a cheese burger as normally you can't go too wrong with that. However, if I had dropped the burger on my foot it would have done some damage! and apart from the fact that the cheese didn't seem to make it into the burger, It was inedible. I didn't need an alarm clock as in the morning I was awoken at 5.00 am by the cleaners. Breakfast was not available before 8 am which is normally quite late and I arrived at 7.45 only to be told by the cleaner that I was too early. I asked for a coffee and the cleaner eventually obliged. He gave me a sachet of coffee and some hot water. A waitress eventually arrived and as there were just two of us having breakfast she was impolite and gave the impression that we a disruption to her normal duties. She wasn't rude as such but not very helpful and when I asked for another cup of coffee it never came. I asked for poached eggs on toast. The toast was hard and the eggs way over cooked but as I was in a rush, I didn't have time to send them back. All in all, it was not a pleasant experience.

Over charged on arrival sayin we were told the wrong price No sofa bed made up Food was awful Rude staff Dirty linen Heavily stained landing carpet with clean linen on the floor . An to make it worse cause me major anxiety as the ceiling lookin like it was about fall through I’ve left a complaint But as of yet still no reply Bad customer service on a high level if I could give this a 0 rating I would I’d never stay there again very unwelcoming

Great pub, good food, decent ale, good staff. Ideal for a stay after the races. Would have got a full 5* but the the less than great bed.

We stopped over the night before our flight from Gatwick and unfortunately we did not sleep well in Room 8. When we retired to bed we discovered that right outside our room window was an overflow pipe of some sort which was flooding water from a height of roughly 6 feet onto the roof beneath. The noise from constant splashing prevented us from sleeping for hours and woke us frequently. By this time, staff had left the building so we were left to cope with it. While it was raining some of the night, in the morning we found the rain had stopped yet gallons of water continued to gush continuously from this pipe. Whatever this outlet pipe is for, a proper downpipe desperately needs to be fitted so that the water falls gently onto the roof beneath. It is such a shame because other than that issue the room was a decent size, nicely furnished and decorated, equipped with a good size TV and large bathroom complete with bath. And the pub downstairs was nice with great staff. On arriving at The Star Inn and seeing the pub and room we really felt we had found our “go to” hotel when travelling from Gatwick, but given the lack of sleep, we’re now not so sure. Perhaps if we had some assurances the downpipe had been installed and could sleep.

There was some sort of extraction unit outside the window in the courtyard below noise level unbearable it didn’t stop until the food service was over after 10pm and started next morning very early for the service of breakfast we presumed . Never again !

Nice accommodation but alas the bed was too small, I’m 6’4 and with the wooden frame I did not fit also the shower is very small size and does not fit the bigger guy.

Stayed the night before a early morning flight. Lovely pup great food drinks a big pricey though. Very noisy till about 11.Ic so not much sleep as we was leaving about 4am. Shower was useless no pressure. Would recommend the pub but not for a stay over.

Stayed at the star in for airport run following a airport run. Nice comfortable and food was surperb. There was a lot of plane traffic during the night but didn't really bother me. I skipped the shower as was totally rubbish. The down side was it was a hot and sunny day and there were people smoking down below which caused smoke to drift into room. Maybe smoking tables should be removed away from accommodation or totally banned all together. Apart from that it was a nice stay and will return
