Anabezi Camp

This camp is truly fabulous in so many ways as I am sure anyone taking the time to read all the other reviews will see. The setting, wildlife, food, rooms, and staff are all out of this world. I wanted to leave a review though to explain how well this establishment functions when things don't go as planned on your safari. My husband developed a kidney stone just prior to our arrival at Anabezi but was managing it with Motrin and still was having a fantastic trip to Africa. By our 3rd day at Anabezi he was no longer comfortable with regular pain medication and wasn't able to eat any longer either. By our last day I was very concerned about him and his ability to actually make our 40 hour trip back to the US the following day. I explained the situation to camp managers Eunice and Dennis. They leapt into action and had our bush flight to Lusaka that evening moved up to noon. Dennis was traveling to Lusaka that day on our new flight for business. He postponed his own work related duties there to accompany us to the hospital and explain everything to the staff in the hospital. He then waited with our family for over an hour until my husband was receiving care and he was assured things were going well and that we would likely be able to make out trip home the next day. He and Eunice continued to follow up with us throughout our trip home and for several days once we were back in the states and my husband was having surgery to remove stone. I cant thank them enough for all their help and kindness. Truly wonderful people who care about their guests and will go above and beyond for you if the unexpected happens. (which it frequently does with international travel) THe rest of the staff were so kind and went above and beyond as well to help when they could with this situation. I should also mention that we were traveling to celebrate my son's college graduation. The staff and chef made our family a special dinner to celebrate this event and made him a cake as well. We had no idea this was coming. Very special for him. If you have any reservations about international travel, especially to very remote locales due to risk of injury or illness, do not hesitate to go to Anabezi. If things go off the rails I assure you that you are in good hands! Thank you so much!

Anabezi Camp is far. It's one of the very last camps in the park. You can fly there straight from Lusaka which will make the trip very short. If you choose the longer (but scenic) option of driving, then it's best to drive to Chongwe and to take the boat from there. It feels way shorter to combine the road with a river cruise. I have been in Baines River Camp before which was awesome but it feels very special to be so deep into the park. You see an enormous amount of animals and you get special surprises like a bush lunch. I also really liked our newly refurbished tents.

Our 4 day stay at Anabezi Camp surpassed all expectations. Even though I'm 3 months late in writing this review, every aspect of our experience remains crystal clear. The location? Perfect, especially since it overlooked a lagoon where animals would come to drink water. Even better was the short drive to access the Zambezi River for fishing activities and animal viewing—the most wonderful spot for sundowners. The food? Superb! We looked forward to every meal, including the cake served at afternoon teatime. To say we were spoiled is an understatement. I'm still trying to lose the pounds I happily put on during our stay. Accommodation? Again, superb. Comfortable and spacious, airy and bright. The large verandah was ideal for relaxing, whether reading on a chaise or plunging into our private plunge pool The water was cold but with the high temperatures, very refreshing. Staff? What can I say? Everyone went out of their way to ensure we had the best of times, and had everything we wanted or needed. We loved every minute of our 4 days here. Many, many thanks to our incredible guide, Richman, for giving us unforgettable sightings, insights, experiences, and conversations. Thanks also to the warm and friendly staff who made us our G&Ts, filled our water bottles before we set out on activities, greeted us with smiles and damp towels when we returned, served us each delicious meal or afternoon tea, got our tent ready for us each night and morning. I recommend this camp without reservation.
