The Knowes Hotel & Restaurant

We dine here regularly. Never disappointed with food, service and price. Always come away feeling you have had a treat. My favourite has to be the crispy langos. Staff are absolutely amazing, warm and friendly welcome. Lunch was superb for the 4 of us today, my husbands venison was delicious 😋 as was all our meals. Thank you

Went tonight with a friend, was looking forward to a nice meal as I’ve been before. Bad from start to finish. Starters were just shocking, I ordered the chicken liver and smoked chicken terrine 🤣 obviously Don’t know what a terrine is, chucked on the plate with two minute slivers of cold limp toast, no decoration, put it back and got the same plate with half a tiny breakfast bun 🧐 was so hungry I ate it, my friend had the Cullen skink, what a joke, a bowl of tatties swimming in what looked like dish water, that was sent back, waitress came back and actually said “chef said he knew it wasn’t good but there is fresh now, would you like a new bowl” WTAF…….if he knew it was crap then he shouldn’t have sent it out. My friend took a replacement of prawn cocktail, tasteless….cheap frozen prawns (and the restaurant is in Macduff!! she ate it because she was hungry, we both told the waitress what we thought when she came back. Mains, I had chicken cordon bleu with linguine, chicken was dry as hell, linguine was cold and difficult to eat as it had been cut up! Chips were tasteless and cold, only good thing on the plate was the small pot of cauliflower cheese, my friend had the monkfish scampi, which was decent chunks but everything was just bland and tasteless! Each time the waitresses came (and we had 3 different ones) we told them what was wrong with the food and it was just edible. Final straw was being handed dessert menus, one of which was smeared with ketchup and the salt mill was too, shouted the waitress over and on telling her, they were snatched from my hands and I was given such a filthy look. Got up without even touching the second drinks we ordered, went to pay and was asked if everything was okay, we said no and was told we were given every opportunity to tell the waitresses but said nothing, WHAT A JOKE, I Couldn’t make it up. BAD FOOD, BAD SERVICE……Needless to say we won’t be returning.

I stayed here for 8 weeks for work commitments Excellent hotel very friendly and efficient staff lovely rooms really nice food especially the lemon sole and haddock Kiev breakfast fantastic as well overall a great place and would go back anytime

Went for my birthday lunch to the knowes yesterday. First class..lovely food i recommend the pork duo. The young man serving was so attentive and lovely. We just couldn't fault it. Lovely veiws across the sea but nice and cosy inside. A lovely birthday treat

Quite a disappointing visit this time around. There was a Burns supper going on in the function suite and a full restaurant so the pressure was on. Staff were clearly very busy but just couldn't attend as they should. We waited for 20 minutes at our table before being offered even a drink, it took another 10 minutes to arrive. Only then was our order taken for food. The menu was quite interesting, but the food was very bland..The haggis neep and tattie cake starter was a great idea, but was very poor in texture and flavour. Mains of roast chicken and a salmon Wellington were similar, the mange tout were actually underneath the salmon. Star of the meal was an excellent syrup tart, the home made honeycomb was brilliant. Price was a bit more reasonable than our previous visit, but overall a disappointing evening.

I am gluten intolerant and I can honestly say this restaurant offers among the best choices options I’ve experienced in a long time. The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious. I really cannot fault the restaurant at this hotel.

Lovely relaxing hotel to stay in. I came to visit family in November. The staff were very kind and welcoming, friendly and a joy to talk to. The hotel was immaculate. Everyone was very accommodating. The rooms are clean and Perfectly set out. A lovely area to stay. There are buses to take you from Aberdeen through to Inverness which are very frequent and good for hop on hop of visits to the various beautiful towns around the East Coast. Only thing I wish was my legs were longer. Being short and trying to tackle hill a bit on the difficult side. I would highly recommend The Knowes Hotel.

On or second a 3 week trip through Scotland. The best nights sleep, best dinner and friendliest staff we have ever met. Yes I am telling all my fellow travellers about this wonderful place. The parking is on a slope, so park at the top if walking up hill is a issue. Best of the Best, Thanks you for such a wonderful stay.
