Les Bords de Mer

We came here on our honeymoon - Marseille is great, but this hotel was not. What really irritated us was that the hotel had assured us that the room we had booked - one of the more expensive ones called 'Executive Bord de Mer' - was 20 m2 all up. I had an email exchange several months before with the receptionist who assured me that 20 m2 was indeed the size of the room. Well we got there and the room was tiny. The hotel seemed to want to overcompensate for this by offering various freebies upon arrival - a bottle of rose, a Sezane tote bag, free fizzy drinks in the mini bar. However the floor space in the room was so minute you couldn't even open a suitcase. You had to squeeze past the bed to get to the balcony. I asked the hotel staff about it and at first they claimed that the room was 'definitely' 20 m2, it was just 'an unusual shape'... after a few minutes conversation they suddenly said the 20m2 actually included the bathroom. I then measured the room and the bathroom with the iphone tape measure app which is pretty accurate. Turns out the bedroom itself was under 8m2. Even including the bathroom, the whole space was around 13 m2. So the 20m2 claim that we were invited to believe, was simply "an alternative truth" to draw customers in. After I'd complained, the hotel mysteriously waived the fee for the hotel breakfast. While that was nice, it would have been better if they'd simply been honest from the start and admitted that the room is tiny - despite it being the "executive room". yes the balcony is big but the hotel management are not being honest about the size of the room. it was the dishonesty that we found really upsetting - and off-putting. 965 euros for two nights felt like we were being ripped off. Next time we'll be staying at Hotel la Residence du Vieux Port where the rooms are actually the size they're advertised as.

The good: amazing staff, the views from the room and good location. We were greeted with a warm smile and thankfully well spoken English and since we were a bit early to check in, also a glass of wine. The view from the room was fantastic and when we decided to go exploring I realized the hotel was pretty close to everything, about 20 minutes on foot. The lacking: the room was incredibly small with very little storage for clothing. The balcony was also very small making it difficult to settle in for the view. The top floor pool is very small and so cold that it wasn't enjoyable to swim (there were also all the seagull droppings...) and there isn't any shade for lounging. The final let down was breakfast, at 28 Euro a person I was expecting an outstanding meal but that was not the case. My wife ordered well done scrambled eggs and basically got a bowl of egg soup and when she asked to have them cooked more they sent back two hard boiled eggs in the shell. The bacon was so well done that it was practically inedible and my french toast was so sweet that I couldn't even finish half of it. I would stay at the hotel again but I would not eat at the restaurant. The prices are very high and you don't get the quality of food for that price.

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Hôtel les Bords de Mer! Our business meeting ran late and we didn't arrive until well after we'd planned, but the staff couldn't have been more understanding and welcoming. Waking up to that incredible sea view was just spectacular, and the breakfast was fantastic. I treated myself to a massage which was exactly what I needed - so relaxing! For just one night's stay, it left such a great impression. The whole experience was perfect from start to finish. Thank you for making our short stay so special.

The staff is super friendly and competent; the place is clean. However, the Deluxe room we booked barely had space for us to open our suitcases and lacked basic items like shelving space to put our clothes or luggage. You will be happy to wake up with an unmatched ocean view with the sound of the waves but you have to be comfortable in a very tiny space.

A beautiful stay with amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea. My wife loves the beach and this location was perfect. We could sit on our balcony and watch the sunset. Loved our stay!

Fantastic hotel at the seaside in Marseille near Plage Catalane. The room was clean and new with superb view at the Mediterranean Sea. Very friendly staff makes your stay very pleasant. On top of the roof there is a infinity pool with great view 360. Definitely the best hotel near the sea and center of Marseille. In 10 minutes you walk to the Monument and Vallon des Auffes; fantastic hidden pearl of little fisherman harbor.
