The Diplomat Boutique Hotel

My wife and I and two other couples spent a week at the Diplomat two weeks ago and we all loved it. Sarah and Neil are terrific hosts and the staff is superb in all respects. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean as are the public areas and the pool is wonderful. We were given great tips on what to visit and restaurants and Sarah hooked us up with Raoul who provided driving and guiding to sites including Uxmal. Raoul is superb and made the trip special. Special shoutouts to Maria, the assistant manager and Carla, who prepared the most awesome breakfasts each morning with fresh fruit and Yucatán specialties. And to all members of the staff as well. I can’t say enough about the Diplomat. By the end of the week we all felt like family at this very special place.

One of the nicest hotel experiences that you could ever wish for. Sara and Neil make you feel their hotel is your home and they could not have been more helpful - organising archaeological and cenote tours, providing invaluable advice (and restaurant booking Hartwood was as amazing as you had promised) about our next destination and sorting a lift to the train station. Special mention to the wonderful breakfasts and the packed snacks for the journey.. which went perfectly with the train tequila tastings! We are already planning our return!

The Diplomat may be one of the best boutique hotels in the world. The hotel strikes the right balance between providing comfort and making people comfortable and is a perfect fit for Merida. The staff and ownership are wonderful and genuine. The meals, decor, and architecture are simple, purposeful, and provided with a touch of artistry and care. The staff knows the area and provides on-point recommendations appropriate for each guest. Cannot recommend more.

The Diplomat Hotel is a luxe boutique hotel that felt like a secret oasis in the city! We loved the unique charm and ambiance. The owners are amazing, provided an intimate and personalized experience went above and beyond. Some things we loved about our stay here: •Loved the informal check in with margarita •Daily authentic Mexican breakfast •Boutique with locally sourced cute items •Serene pool •Honesty bar with my fav drinks •Instagram worthy backdrop design •Curated itinerary by owners with things to do and places to see Overall an amazing staycation! We were close to the city and were able to enjoy some new places thanks to their suggestions! Would definitely stay again!

Always great catching up with Sara and Neil, who run their lovely boutique hotel with intention and love. 4 nights this time in the one room we hadnt tried previously (The Paramount Suite) - which, despite the separate beds, was our favorite room at the hotel! Carla again prepared our breakfasts with creativity, skill, and a smile - so damn good! The tequila/mezcal bar and refreshing pool was a welcome oasis after a long day walking in what has become one of our favorite cities anywhere. Is there any way better to gear up for a 4 night Phish run than a stay at the Diplomat Hotel? I dare you to find one! Thx again Sara and Neil - see you next time in Napa or Merida!

Everything about our experience at the Diplomat was just lovely. We stayed for nine nights and could cheerfully stayed longer. The breakfasts are as wonderful as advertised, and they make mean Margaritas in case you’d like one while lounging at the pool. Sara, Neil, and the whole staff, are incredibly helpful. My husband and I are older and found that getting to Centro from the hotel on foot was not really was not great for us, but Uber was readily available. I should also mention that the hotel got us fabulous guides for some great excursions.

This is one of the most beautiful small hotels I have ever visited. Gorgeous & tranquil. Lovely pool. The breakfasts were fabulous! The hosts and staff were great - friendly and mega helpful. We traveled as three couples, and it worked out well as we had three of the four rooms and so pretty much had the place to ourselves. Our group stayed for a week. And, some of us could’ve just stayed for another month. We also were fortunate to be able to book Raul for three different days of excursions. He was a marvelous guide. I can’t say enough about the Diplomat. I WILL return! Beth McGown

Outstanding in every respect. Amenities, luxury, good location, support of local artists and artisans ... what a gem of a boutique hotel! We loved meeting Neil and Sara and shared stories and a few laughs. While you're there, ask Neil about his relationship to the legendary band "Rush" from Canada - this alone is worth your stay. The breakfast was delicious (with homemade bagels!) and the cocktails (in the coolest shaker on the planet) refreshing. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Pool, atmosphere, vibe, relaxation, and staff were all perfect. Your trip to Merida will benefit from staying here!
