The best place to stay to explore Tenjin. I’ve done a lot of skiing and snowboarding around the world. Tenjin is the best runs I’ve ever had! It’s not an easy going family resort (I think it only has 3 groomed runs), Tenjin is for powderhounds and is an epic backcountry playground. I can’t recommend guiding with Kieren enough! Tenjin is wonderful but it can be avalanche prone. Having a guide who has lived there for 10 years and knows the mountain like the back of his hand is just invaluable. Kieren kept us safe and always found the best lines on the mountain. I strongly recommend guiding, even if you’re a seasoned backcountry rider. One of the days we had an ex pro snowboarder (who has ridden for over 40 years around the world), he still used a guide to explore the mountain. Tenjin is one of Japans best kept snow secrets. Shhhhh

What brought me to this spot in the far north of Gunma Prefecture was a report I had seen about the deepest train station in Japan - Doai. It is jokingly known as Japan's Number One Mole Station (日本一のモグラ駅, Nippon ichi no mogura eki) due to the fact that passengers must make a 10 minute descent down a tunnel in order to reach the platform. Tenjin is 5 mins away from the station, and surrounded by spectacular mountains. On arrival, I was greeted by Nena, and she very kindly offered to drive me to a nearby bus stop so that I could catch the midmorning bus to Takaragawa Onsen - beautiful place for a dip. Next day was a hike along the Ichinokura valley, with a strenuous climb up to the road, then ropeway and cable chair up to Tanigawadake - wonderful autumn colours (Koyo) everywhere). Comfortable rooms, excellent tasty breakfast, and fun and helpful staff - thanks Keiren and Nena, I'll be back!

We stayed at Tenjin Lodge 3 nights. We climbed mountain, did canyoning, swimming, enjoyed the nature and the company of many good people who also happened to stay here at the same time. Kiran has been a fantastic host. He was kind, investing his time on his guests helping them to take the best of good times out of thier visit. This place is located beside a beautiful river and it's in middle of a natural park. Fresh air, beautiful nature, kind people and very good food at Minakami which is the closest town not so far away.

The first impression was the worst experience ever I had in my life. The Foreign lady who was in the front desk she doesn't know how to talk to the guest. She was very unpleasant and argued with several matters which she could have explained us nicely. And she ignored our request and didn't pay a proper attention completely. And the most unpleasant thing they told us, that they don't care about OTA guest. That's very annoying to even hear. If they are a hotel, giving the hospitality to everyone should be their first priority without considering OTA or FIT guest. So I can not recommend this place anyone. We waste our money without staying.Don’t waste your money on this place.It is really bad options for your vacation.
