Hostel Cattleya - Monteverde, Costa Rica

Great shower. Comfy beds. You can book tours through them same price as anywhere else. But they help you pick the right thing for you and organise it. Great service. Very good value for money. Very sociable. Lots of people in kitchen. Well-equipped. Right next to bus stop for bus from San Jose. Bus stop to Monteverde is a few mins walk away. There are only lockers in the kitchen. And the kitchen is locked til 7am. But many people start their day much earlier. Also means if you need to catch an early morning bus you need to remember to get your stuff from the locker the night before. Kitchen gets yuck when lots of people using it. But that's more guests' fault.

My husband and I made a last minute booking and got the private room across the road from the main building. When I tell you this room was SPOTLESS. Cleanest hostel I've ever been in. The room had two bunk beds which weren't the most comfortable but still great value for the price we paid. Best part is that the shower got hot!! But you have to throttle it down so the water comes out more slowly if you want it to go above 30 degrees. We would've extended our stay by an extra night because of how pleased we were with the location, the state of the room/bathroom, not to mention the helpful staff who arranged our tours for us... Unfortunately they didn't have any rooms available for a second night! I would definitely stay here again next time we come to Monteverde 🏞️

We stayed in the 2 bedroom house that was detached from the main cattleya hostel. Basically the way it works is that you have a hostel featuring numerous private rooms on one street and then the next street over you have two x 2 bedroom houses that could be rented for larger groups of up to 4. We hired the later and have nothing but positive feedback. PROS - VALUE - Stupidly cheap. 30 USD a night for three people which is actually cheaper than 3 x dorm beds and afforded access to a fully self contained house with complete kitchen which allowed us to save even more. - SECURITY - Deadbolt on the doors and bars over all the windows. - LOCATION - Within walking distance to the main area of Santa Elena. Walking distance to bus station and supermarket. - GYM - located literally across the road it cost 3000 colon for a day pass. - CLEAN - ROOMS - The place had two seperate rooms both of which had comfortable beds. Air conditioning worked well. Quilts on the beds. Hot water worked well. A fully stocked kitchen with fridges allowed us to self cater to further save more money, - WIFI - Worked well and was quite fast. Fast enough to stream netflix without an issue as well as YouTube. - TV had netflix and YouTube and streamed without issue. - FRIENDLY STAFF - At the hostel we were able to book a few tours with the major companies in the region and arrange for pick up and drop off from these areas. CONS - Nil Overall a really lovely stay at a ridiculously low price.
