14-18 Meuse-Argonne

We did not stay at the hotel, but had Maarten recommended to us by our travel agent. He spent 3 1/2 hours with us as we tried to unravel some mysteries surrounding the death of my great uncle who was a member of the lost battalion back in 1918. Not only did we visit the cemetery, but also the battlefield sites as well as the spot where the lost battalion was actually lost. What was most appreciated was that Maarten was able to do lots of research before we arrived and determined that in fact, my great uncle is not buried in the cemetery but was missing an action. The last spot on the tour was the place, that according to his commanding officer, my uncle had been killed and eventually buried. This place is an amazing resource and we cannot wait to solve the rest of the mystery together.

This is a wonderful B&B in the Meuse-Argonne area run by Didi and Maarten Otte. They are both wonderful hosts and speak multiple languages to welcome all their guests. The B&B offers breakfast and dinner and Didi is an excellent chef. Maarten also does battlefield tours and my son and I spent an excellent day touring WW1 battlefields and trenches. The B&B has attached a small museum on the Meuse-Argonne battle. Overall we had a lovely visit and recommend a stay at the 14-18 Meuse-Argonne B&B.

Perfect place to stay if you are in the area or interested in WW1 history, especially the American Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Didi and Maarten are the perfect hosts, the food is amazing, the bedrooms are great, the town is charming, the building is historical, and the location is the best!!! Maarten has authored several books on WW1 and offers battlefield tours. They have a museum attached to their BNB that is a must see. And Didi offers delicious meals, breakfast and dinner! All the food is homemade and a lot of produce from their garden, don’t miss the homemade rhubarb compote! I didn’t know what to expect when my husband and I decided to visit the area and booked a room for a couple of nights. The historical sites we visited close to this BnB were mind-blowing and 14-18 Meuse -Argonne far exceeded our expectations!

I picked this place simply for the proximity to many American WWI battlefield historical sites, and didn’t know what to expect otherwise. I was blown away by the service, fantastic meals, and charm of this location. Didi and Maarten were extremely welcoming and the attached museum is worth the visit. Maarten also offers battlefield walks/tours but my schedule did not allow for the time. I will certainly be back!
