Harriniva Adventure Resort

We just returned from the 5 day husky safari and it was incredible! Our guide, Piita, was amazing and friendly right from the start. It's very clear that she knows her dogs and takes their personalities and skills into account when building teams. She also took the time to educate each of the tourists on handling the needs of their individual team. The dogs' needs were put first, even after a long day; feeding and bedding down the dogs came first, before we shifted to other tasks such as setting up the sauna, starting the wood stove in the cabin, etc. Piita struck a great balance of instructing the safari group without micromanaging. As participants on the tour we were responsible for harnessing up our teams, gathering water and firewood, cleaning up after the dogs, and of course driving our sled. Piita supervised all of this and also cooked amazing breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for the group. She worked incredibly hard and was a superstar. Regarding the dogs, we could tell immediately that the dogs were well treated based on the condition of their fur and overall positive disposition toward strangers. The dogs did not shy away from their harnesses, and in fact once we started harnessing them up they got (vocally!) eager to get going. Once connected to the sleds, they were comfortable, with tails wagging and energized to go (in some cases literally jumping up and down). Once we started moving, they were relaxed and focused. They had coats and booties as needed for the coldest days. The cabins were rustic (no electricity, no running water, outdoor pit toilets) but very comfortable and well insulated (and had wood-fired saunas!). Despite the -10 degree F temperatures (-23 Celsius), cabins were warm, and the cold weather gear provided by Harriniva was excellent. Definitely pay attention to their packing recommendations (headlamp, wool not cotton base layers, hand and toe warmers) and bring extra wool socks. If you follow their recommendations you'll be comfortable and able to enjoy the safari. The scenery was gorgeous, and we were treated to great views of the northern lights for a couple of nights. There was one mishap (which was not Harriniva's fault), but it's worth describing because of how well Harriniva handled it. Our whole group got a stomach bug one by one, and Piita facilitated some late-night snowmobile transport for a few of the tourists who wanted to go back to the lodge. That necessitated re-distributing the dogs among the remaining group and coordinating for another guide to come drive one of the sleds back. While the cabins are rustic, we had cell phone coverage throughout, and Piita was proactive about coordinating all of the logistics to make sure all of us and all of the dogs made it back smoothly. When we got back to Harriniva, Rose at the front desk was very accommodating in helping us rearrange our final two days so we could stay in the main lodge (instead of one of the aurora huts as originally scheduled...we wanted to

This was my 3rd stay at Harriniva, and once again I had a fantastic time. The room (Wilderness Plus) is gorgeous and cozy, the staff are lovely, and the activities are wonderful. Surroundings are beautiful - the frozen river, the woods, the quiet... Breakfast and lunch are very basic, but overall good, dinner is really great. Yes it's pretty expensive, but that's Lapland for you.

Everything was good, room are big and comfort. It's warm and you can change temperature. Food is also good, and had a lot of options. The staff is very pleasant. You can go on safari with haski what is very good to see and try. Also very good to try driving snowmobile.

We went white water rafting. The experience was really nice and the staff friendly. The rafting took about 1 hour which was a good amount of time. The place provides you with all the rafting clothes, so you don’t have to bring anything special with you.

Great adventure, everything was perfect - from the nature to the accomodation, and last but not the least - professional and well trained staff. If i had to give NPS it would be 100! Tnaks Harriniva hotels&safari for uniqe experince and memories.

Absolutely amazing trip. We booked through Ingram’s which was there first set of UK visitors through that source to the hotel. There was a set food menu but this was very nice and can’t complain. Lots all on the doorstep out in the wilderness rather than a commercial (Levi) trip. Skiing, Sleding, husky’s were great. Snowmobiles on site. Mari was our guide and led the tours and was fantastic, she loved her job and the enthusiasm came across to the people on the holiday. Santa and the reindeer ride which are 20 minutes away were very good. I also took the opportunity to walk down to the local bridge and cross over to Sweden. Amazing place and one of the best holidays.
