Faraway Nantucket

Arrived on a quiet Sunday evening in October, and were surprised when we were asked to wait a few moments while the front desk attendant attended to something on her laptop. Okay, we'll wait. She eventually checked us into our Petite King and pointed us toward the room. The room was well-appointed, but there was literally no space for luggage. The closet was occupied by a fridge (set to freezing contents), a safe, and cubbies, leaving a small section to hang your clothes. The bathroom was tight, towels were very thin, definitely not a luxury. Thankfully, we were paying off-season rates, would not recommend it.

I was so disappointed with this hotel. We paid for an upgraded room but was put in the basement. The room smelled of mildew. I did not receive cleaning services and had to wrangle clean towels from the staff. The food and drinks were mediocre at best. I tried to address with management but they never responded. Save your money - there are bettter hotels to stay in.

Start with the positive. Wonderful central location, chic decor and our deluxe room was larger than expected. None of the above makes up for the tiny bathrooms and frankly ridiculously sized sink (think the size of my shoe). Rock hard beds, paper thin walls, no double glazing and airconditoners that seem to make more noise than the trucks outside. In short some nights, I felt that was sleeping in the street with my neihbours on the pavement (think hard bed). But all of the above could have been absolved by the charm of nantucket and the location. But when you pay over $1000 per night and your non-existent housekeeper simply makes up your bed worse than an errant child and leaves damp towels hanging on the cupboard doors (there are no other places to put them given how small the bathroom is) you almost wonder what elsee has not been cleaned before your arrival (certainly not the food spilt by previous guests on the outdoor patio tables or stains on the sofas). This can’t be put down to the rustic island charm or seasonal workers. You pay - you expect. The lack of care shown to this property by its custodians means it will age before its time. That is a shame because with comfortabl beds, quiet AC and top notch cleaning it could be quite the place. Sadly I shall look elsewhere when I next return.

It's definitely not worth a $1,000/per night fee. I booked a king room to stay for a 3-day work event and was clear I needed space to work. I was "shown" to my building by someone that seemed to be a contractor (shorts/T, not even a uniform shirt) who refused to help me with my 3 heavy bags. When we finally arrived at the building and went in, we kept going down sets of stairs (bad sign) to one of 2 basement rooms...not a "garden suite," the literal basement with zero view of the outdoors. It smelled musty and even the "dry" setting on the HVAC unit couldn't remedy it. I would have tried to change it had I been able to speak to any front desk staff (they were never available by phone or in person). To make matters worse, the hotel completely misleads guests into thinking that they actually have dining services all day...the "espresso bar" was merely an unmanned coffee urn, and the "patio service" was completely unavailable - merely a bunch of people sitting there with their laptops with bags of food/drink from elsewhere. When I finally saw a bartender around 3pm he merely stated: "I don't open until after 5." They seem to be trying for some level of improvements (e.g., switching out all the patio cushions), yet they certainly are not focusing on what's important like proper room rates/transparency, or food/drink/service.

I spent a last minute getaway in Nantucket. I got lucky to find the Faraway hotel had a room left. I had never heard of this hotel or even where it was. I booked the room with some reservation as in was in the “basement” which was disclosed. Upon arrival I found it was smack in the middle of town. I had my car but you can walk from the ferry. I was given a parking pass as there are zero spots at the hotel but the pass gives you the ability to park on the street at the 2 hour spots anywhere in town so it was nice to have. There was no lobby per say just a small desk and I was checked in quickly and brought to my room. The hotel is a series of renovated houses that encompass a entire block. I main court yard with food and drinks was excellent and the restaurant looked beautiful though I did not eat there. The walk to the room was quick with a series of small seating areas throughout the property. It is really well thought out and every square inch thoughtfully considered. The room as advertised was “below grade” but big and well appointed. The bathroom had all high end details and the room was great. The staff was very helpful and this spot if available is worth the money.

I came with my fiancé and we both agreed this is a first class experience. The Hotel has a Beautiful patio & lounge. Friendly, helpful and attentive Management/Staff like LeighAnn and Mina. They were super attentive to our room service and made our experience above any expectations. Very conveniently close to restaurants and located in town.The hotel is a quick walk from the ferry. Cocktails at Sistership were awesome. We definitely will be coming back!
