Pilot Amphora Boutique Hotel "Adults Only"

Wonderful, small and quiet boutique hotel situated close to the centre of Georgioupolis and a few minutes walk to both beach and shops/restaurants. The rooms are modern and stylish, the beds comfy and the shower is amazing. Food is great, breakfast is buffet style with lots of choice and dinner is 5 courses (with options for those who don’t want to eat meat or fish). The thing that really makes this place special though is the staff. They are friendly and thoughtful, professional, kind and hardworking - nothing is too much trouble from the cleaners to the multitasking front desk/hospitality team. They are led brilliantly by Panos, the hotel manager. We recommend taking the local bus to Rethymno and asking the hotel to organise e-bikes (we had a great half day out exploring the local area and the bikes made easy work of the hills so we could benefit from some amazing views/scenery). We did visit the sister hotel Pilot Beach located on the other side of Georgioupolis - but it was very loud and busy - and we couldn’t wait to return to the quiet sanctuary of Pilot Amphora. What a gem of a hotel this is. Small, intimate, adults only. We arrived in the early hours of the morning to a warm welcome from the night concierge who showed us to our room and got us a snack. The next day we awoke after a restful sleep on a comfortable bed, better able to take in our surroundings which were lovely. All the meals were delicious. Great cooking from the chef and kitchen staff. We were half board and enjoyed an a la carte menu each night. With tasty breakfasts in the mornings. Eggs were cooked to order, so fresh each day. On the mornings we had to leave early for day trips, we were given a packed breakfast. I can truly say the staff are exceptional. Polite, helpful and do their best to make the stay a memorable and relaxing one. The manager goes out of his way to make sure all goes well throughout the stay. He and the table staff ensure they get to know your personal preferences so that coffee is always as you like it! We didn’t get all the names but thank you to Panos, the manager, Nanos, Dinos, Irene and Menia. Also to the chamber maids who looked after our room. Even my nightwear was neatly folded. Fresh water each day and toiletries as needed. We made good use of the pool which is a reasonable size and kept clean. We also visited the sister hotel located next to the beach. A shuttle service is provided between the two hotels . We opted to walk back along the beach which took about half an hour to forty minutes on the day we went to the Pilot beach. On some evenings there was entertainment. Saturday and Sunday the music was provided by a young couple, with beautiful singing by the young woman across a range of musical genres from jazz to pop. The village itself is pleasant to walk around, with plenty to see and explore. It is a good place from which to explore this area of Crete. The one word to sum everything up is EXCEPTIONAL and we can’t wait to go back. Thank you for a memorable holiday.

Overall a really nice and enjoyable 6 nights. Positives: Clean rooms and hotel Spacious (Maisonette) room Good quality food and in the majority very tasty. The 5 course a la carte is plentiful and so are the options at breakfast. Can also use the sister hotel (Pilot Beach Resort) which has its own stretch of beach and free sunbeds - note this is a family resort so lots of young children (predominantly german clientele). The resort is only a 5 min drive away and Amphora offers a free timetabled shuttle service. Close to restaurants and cafes nearby (in Georgioupoli). Irina and the blond lady at dinner (sorry we did not note her name down) were so friendly and accommodating. Negatives: The biggest gripe for us (on a beach holiday) is that towels, shower amenities were not replaced daily. This is an inconvenience when you are showering multiple times a day. A number of TV channels didn't work. Only 2 english speaking news channels. No capability to watch apps in the room i.e. Netflix Although most the staff (including the hotel manager) were friendly, we sensed a couple were disingenuous. This is exacerbated when it's a small hotel.

The room had an iron and ironing board, hairdryer and safe. The tv was only in German although the range of channels were good. I loved the design on the room, plenty of storage for the 2 of us and the bedside table had usb ports aswell as sockets.

We had a wonderful week at Pilot Amphora. The outstanding team at the hotel made us feel like valued guests from the moment we arrived. Everything is even better than it looks online, from the restful, beautifully designed rooms (ours had a private pool) to the outstanding catering - including a magnificent breakfast every morning. The hotel is situated in the centre of Georgioupolis, a lively but relaxed little town with beautiful tavernas and beachside walks. With so much to see in the world, we rarely go anywhere more than once. But Pilot Amphora might well be an exception to that rule.

This was our second stay in this hotel for our summer holidays. As last year, we had great time here. The hotel is well located in Georgioupolis, it is very quite and peaceful and close to the beach. It is very clean, the food is good from breakfast to diner. What is the most important is the kindness of all the staff (cleaners, waiters and manager). You feel even better than at home. We fall in love with this place and will come back for sure.
