Palais de Mahe - a CGH Earth Experience

A French Quarter Gem – Simply Unforgettable! I recently stayed at Palais de Mahe, and it was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The location is unbeatable—nestled right in the heart of the French Quarter and just steps away from the beach. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and perfectly maintained, but what really sets this hotel apart is the staff. They are hands-down the best I’ve encountered—attentive, warm, and professional. Pro Tip: You must try the tea here. My unexpected highlight was sitting by the pool in the afternoon, sipping tea and soaking in the atmosphere. The food throughout my stay was also incredible. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Staying at Palais de Mahe feels less like checking into a hotel and more like stepping into a perfectly preserved chapter of Pondicherry’s colonial past. Tucked inside the French Quarter on Rue de Bussy, just a short stroll from the Bay of Bengal promenade, the property carries itself with quiet confidence — high ceilings, arched doorways, deep verandahs and period furniture that instantly transport you to another era. My room was wonderful — spacious, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. Everything worked beautifully: strong air-conditioning, great water pressure, comfortable beds, and bathrooms that blend modern comfort with old-world charm. It feels nostalgic without sacrificing the creature comforts that make travel enjoyable. The restaurant was excellent — refined yet relaxed — and the staff were simply fantastic. Warm, attentive and genuinely kind. The sort of hospitality that brightens your day and reminds you why great hotels are really about people. The Ayurveda spa is another highlight. After a long day exploring White Town, sinking into one of their herbal therapies is pure bliss — the kind of experience that resets the body and mind. In short, Palais de Mahe is a memorable heritage stay — intimate, soulful, and full of character. A little time capsule in the heart of Pondicherry. I would absolutely come back again.

Great building in the French Quarter so very easy to walk around the area from the hotel. The room was spacious with a TV and tea & coffee making facilities. Bath and shower in the bathroom. Very clean room. True to the CGH Earth experience sustainability and conservation is a large part of the hotel ethos. Lovely pool available for guests and the restaurant was very good. Cocktail bar available. Staff were attentive and helpful. Lovely balcony area to sit out on and have a drink.

This is the most wonderful boutique hotel in every way. We had a truly memorable 6 night stay. Our room was simply gorgeous, with a private terrace overlooking the beautiful swimming pool. The room was very well equipped, with a super comfy bed and spacious bathroom. Breakfast was such a treat every morning, with a really delicious selection which changed daily. Dinner was beyond all our expectations, every dish beautifully presented, and tasting exceptional. The chefs are really very talented. Thank you to every single member of staff at Palais de Mahe for making our stay with you so incredibly special. You were all, without exception, so kind, courteous and genuinely caring.

A CGH Earth is a mansion hotel set in the french quarter near to the wide promenaded beachfront. The 18 rooms were spacious with high ceilings, and featured its distinct mustard-yellow walls. Due to the compact nature of the hotel, and the fact we were only staying for two nights, we never used the central courtyard swimming pool which in hindsight was a mistake. When checking-in guest were given a lovely drink which had chia seeds and a great taste. Breakfast was delightful and catered to all tastes. The restaurant was open on three sides to allow the air to flow and give great views, and served Indo-French cuisine.

Choosing Palais de Mahe was the right thing to do for our 3 night stay in Pondicherry - we would highly recommend this hotel and the staff who provide such professional and friendly service. Who would have guessed the building is only 15 years old - good job! Our room, on the first floor, was very comfortable and we loved the easy access to the tranquil pool which we used and enjoyed every day (don't come expecting to swim lengths though, this is more a chill and cool down pool!) We also made the most of the roof top restaurant which served both breakfast and dinner (and in between times too). The breakfast offer is delicious and extensive with a wide choice written up on a blackboard (we really appreciated that orders could be made until 9.30am) while dinner ranges from tasty 'bites' to main meals. It's also a great place to stop for a beer in the afternoon! The hotel is currently undergoing development and apparently will be getting bigger - there was some noise while we sat on the roof top (it could be worth asking about this if you are planning a stay soon). I can understand the hotel's popularity and desire to expand, but just hope that the small pool (and other communal areas) will be able to cope with a larger number of guests. What a beautiful hotel run by lovely people. This is a beautiful heritage property which is an oasis of calm in Puducherry. Very well located and a minute from the sea promenade. The rooms are well decorated and everything has been thought of. The food for breakfast and dinner was delicious and service excellent. It was the staff who really deserve praise! What an amazing team. We had a great stay! Thank you!

My recent stay at Palais de Mahe was truly memorable. The hotel itself is very cosy, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at home. Everything is impeccably clean, and the General Manager ***** with the entire staff go above and beyond to ensure your stay is exceptional. Their care and attention to detail made my four days here feel effortless and relaxing. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the restaurant Les Alize. As a passionate foodie who is always searching for the best local flavours, I can confidently say this is the place to be. Chef Kathir and his team exceeded all expectations, introducing me to authentic South Indian delicacies prepared with remarkable skill, passion and love. Jagadesh offered me a spectacular cooking lesson that I will treasure forever, while Chandran delighted me daily with his delicious soups. Antony patiently explained me some of their cooking, always with genuine smiles that added to the warmth of the experience. Every member of the team anticipated my needs with grace and kindness, making me feel not just like a guest, but part of their family. Their hospitality, combined with the outstanding culinary journey, made my stay unforgettable. I wholeheartedly recommend Palais de Mahe to anyone visiting Pondicherry—especially those who love food and value genuine hospitality.
