Fairfield by Marriott Portsmouth

Carpenter ants on walls, bedding, in bathroom. We killed about a dozen. May be due to the construction. Creepy. Otherwise, clean. Glad it was just an overnight.

The breakfast buffet was quite good. The location was safe and had a lot of dining options. There were a few renovations going on in the hotel that time. Despite this, our hotel stay was still quite comfortable.

Wet good place to stay. They were presently undergoing much-needed updates to an older hotel, but the updates will make a difference to the hotel appearance and quality. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was good.

We only stayed one night, and i would stay again in a heartbeat. The rooms were totally refurbished, clean and sleek. The bed was comfortable. The entire property was spotless and the staff were friendly and helpful. Loved that they had fresh coffee, tea and hot chocolate available all the time. We did not have the breakfast there, so I can't comment on that. Free parking was a plus and an Uber was about $7.00 one way to downtown Portsmouth. That was a deal considering parking in Portsmouth could cost more than that, and the hotels downtown Portsmouth charge an additional $40 to park per day. I'll be back for sure!

I am comparing this stay with one year ago. This time, it seemed not as clean, particularly one of the pillow cases. It smelled like a man's cologne. Maybe the person servicing the rooms wears cologne? Or the sheets were not refreshed from the last guest? Either is concerning. I know there are signs everywhere about the renovations taking place, but this has nothing to do with that.

This is the place I stay whenever in the area, for at least 7 years now. Continues to be excellent! Courteous and helpful desk staff. Saw the manager around quite often. Clean, comfortable, quiet. Designed with a lot of places to put stuff. Flat area next to dresser, at right height for your suitcase, with rolling seat beneath it. Double shelves at the nightstand. Breakfast is amazing. Real eggs, bacon, lots of carbs. You might see reservation sites mentioning construction. I did not encounter any inconvenience. They don't start until 830am. Minimal noise. The workers were very polite, like when they had to use the elevator to move equipment. Highly recommend it!

Though the place isn't in walking distance to downtown, unless you like long walks, we took a 5 minute Uber in and back so no one had to drive or find a place to park.

The staff was great, breakfast was better than most, hotel was very clean, great stay.

Long weekend in NH and Maine to search for sea glass and work on my photography. Fairfield/Rye location was prime between 6 different beaches. Staff very friendly and accommodating. I will return
