The Hotel Portsmouth - Downtown

An alternative to the vanilla "brand" hotels with cookie cutter accomodations and service. The Hotel Portsmouth oozes with character and the front desk and service team are exceptionally accomodating. Perfect location within walking distance of most Portsmouth restaurants, museums, music, live stage and movie venues. Shopping, of course. The rooms are clean and rooms on the first three floors are also served by an elevator. The original portion of the building fronting on Court Street is dressed in a typical stick architectural style exterior with late 19th century oak wainscotting interior along with an awesome oak staircase. The breakfast room is dignified but not snobby. Limited breakfast choices, but all day coffee and hot water for tea. A lovely facility consistent with the historic nature of Portsmouth. Highly recommend. Other than the limited breakfast food there are no other food choices nor adult beverages available in-house, but with hundreds of outstanding dining and drinking establishments just a short walk away...not a problem.

Girls Saturday! Was able to check in early. Got texts welcoming us before we got there. Very friendly, welcoming. Free parking. We had the loft on the 4th floor. 2 twins and king. Couch and chairs to chat for a bit. Couch a bit dated up there and needs to be changed out but beds were fabulous and sooo comfy!! Great breakfast with overnight oats, yogurt parfaits and fruit cups. Coffee was delish and I am picky. No need to go to Starbucks down the street. Downtown Portsmouth stores and restaurants are 5 min walk. Came back to a warm fireplace. The Hotel of Portsmouth is a gem and will be back Thanks so much!!!

The Hotel Portsmouth is located in a former Victorian mansion that's been converted into a small boutique hotel. It's located outside the main business district but within 15 minutes of everything. Crucially, it has off-street parking so you can park and walk everywhere. Our room was very comfortable. The bed was great, although I'm glad I brought my own pillow because theirs are a little hard for me. Breakfast is served in a cute nook, featuring small "curated" dishes of yogurt and fruit, overnight oats, and fruit cup along, in addition to the usual half muffins, toast, dry cereal and bananas. I appreciate that they let us check in at noon since our room was ready and that the staff was "New England-friendly" (i.e., not overdoing it.)

The Hotel is as described in ******* and the property's web site. Facilities are limited as there is no restaurant, bar, fitness room etc. but I knew this going in and it was not an issue for me. The location is excellent being only an 8 minute walk to the city center and its many shops and excellent restaurants and a huge beneift is the free parking - parking is difficult and pricey in Poprtsmouth. We had a Deluxe King room for one night - it was spacious and bightly lit abd the bed was really comfortable. I disagree with 1 reviewer who said the illows were hard - not so. I would definitely return.

We just had a very enjoyable stay that exceeded our expectations. The location of this hotel is excellent - close to downtown, easy to walk and close to shopping and restaurants. Comp parking is located behind the hotel and is ample. Communications via text prior to arrival, during our stay and after checkout were appreciated and helpful. Our room was in the original home and was large, nicely furnished, very clean with a recently renovated, attractive bathroom. Amenities were very nice but the room needs a second chair and an area rug(s) to soften the beautiful hardwood floor. I’m not a fan of the pillows and found them overstuffed and hard. The hotel has coffee available starting at 6 AM which was a big plus. The complimentary “light breakfast” is 5 Star, presented with fresh pastries, overnight oatmeal, cheese, ham, muffins, yoghurt, fresh fruit, etc!!! Well done! The service at the front desk is excellent! We can highly recommend!!!

This is my second stay at the Hotel Portsmouth and again I found my guest room super clean and all the staff so friendly and helpful. And the Hotel looked so festive with all the public rooms decked out for the Holidays. And the location was perfect for my short ten minute walk to the Portsmouth Music Hall to see the Sound Of Music. And so grateful to Hotel Manager Peter for sending my Cane back to me, Thank You So Much. I’m an Old Man and just retired after 53 years working in the Hospitality field and I give the Hotel Portsmouth a Perfect 10. And a special Thank You to Britney for her great housekeeping skills and keeping the guest rooms so clean. It’s A Great Hotel With A Perfect Downtown Location And A Very Friendly Staff From Front Desk To Housekeeping.

Highly recommend THP, staff were wonderful, only a 5 min walk to main streets, building and rooms are beautifully kept. Elevators are rare in these old hotels so was glad to have one for luggage. We would definitely return. Roberts Maine Grill (15 min cab) is phenomenal seafood. Maison Navarre is authentic French cuisine and gifts - get the French Toast!

The hotel is beautiful, clean and comfortable. Our room was great with a hardwood floor and a large walk in shower. Robes in the room were a nice touch. The common areas were spacious and nicely decorated with comfortable seating. A gas fire was very inviting. Breakfast exceeded our expectations and coffee and tea available are anytime. The staff was very helpful. Parking is free and you can walk to Portsmouth's many fun shops and delicious restaurants.
