Senator Puerto Plata

When arriving at property the wrong room was given to me. Once in the room the air conditioner was not working properly. The toilet bowl was clogged. The hot water in the room was not working. The door to the toilet was made missing. After complaining about the room I was told to come back the following day to see if a room was available. They did not give me a room the same day or better for our unconvince a better room. Also be aware when getting a room I booked an ocean side room and the hotel assigned a partially viewed ocean view room. Verify room when getting to the Senator. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Beware.

Rooms where clean, food was food and staff was friendly. We had trouble with our coffee maker and didn't get a new one until the day before we left. We had little or no hot water for our entire stay even after telling then numerous times and we where on the fourth floor and the elevator did not work. It was bot a total right off and would consider staying with them again.

We spent 12 lovely days here, from day one to the last was great, staff, entertainment, food, added dinners was more than great, even the big buffet hold top class, with great raw material and spiced and tasteful food We upgraded to a swim out room, which was the extra bonus, the staff where always there with a smile….

My husband and I have been vacationing at Punta Cana several times for the last few years, this time we decided to give Puerto Plata Senator resort a try. The best part of the resort was their staff, they were very friendly and helped as much as they could. We found a few issues: -It was very difficult to get a reservation for dinner at the restaurants at the hotel, we were able to get a reservation the last night we were there, and we were very surprised since the restaurant was mostly empty when we were there. -We had to wake up at 7am every morning to make sure we would get chairs by the beach or pool, otherwise we would have had to wait until 4pm when most people were leaving the pool or beach to be able to to use the chairs. -There are no non-smoking areas in the property, several guests smoked and it was at any area of the hotel. -Room didn't have cable TV, I believe they had antennas that would get signal so there were basically only 3 channels that we could watched. -There were not many activities to do inside the resort, aside from the nightly show; however there wasn't enough room to sit down and once again there were several smokers at the amphitheater. -They were very persistent on joining the VIP Club brunch which apparently is a meeting to promote their time share program. We did try to make the best of our trip but I do not believe we will be coming back to this resort.

Shower was leaking into the bedroom wall causing mold and mildew. Reported it for 4 days before attention was given to our complaint and/or the situation. Had a headache and was coughing during that time period. Also, the elevators didn’t work non of the 8 days we were on vacation and had to climb up and down stairs with luggage. Mind you, this property basically caters to seniors.

The location is easily accessible but safe for guest. The amenities are convenient but not accessible to everyone. We stayed in a luxury suite that at times fell short, certainly no luxury. I hope the necessary changes are made and future guest have no issues.

Staff was super friendly resort was very clean very well-maintained. Very annoying to try to get a beach chair by the pool every day unless you went out at 6 AM food options, limited and we arrived on a Wednesday so all of the specialty restaurants were already taken none left for people who came in later.

Overall worth the stay! The property is definitely aged but still well maintained. The room had a little bit of a musty smell to it but considering the humidity that’s to be expected unless it’s a brand new build. The staff were super friendly, and very helpful! You can find anything you’re looking for if you ask the right people. The bartenders were amazing as with the buffet staff. The so-called Personal concierges were a little annoying and persistent with trying to sell extras. The steakhouse in Japanese restaurant are incredible. However, if I could give zero stars to the Italian restaurant they have at the resort I would. The dive shop just east along the beach is excellent. If you want to scuba, go see Chichi for a new adventure!

When we 1st checked in, the iron was not working (not that big of a deal) and the shower began to overflow out into the bedroom (big deal). The phone to call the front desk was not working so the boyfriend had to walk to the front desk to notify them of the overflowing bathroom. We were transferred to an older room further away. The second room had that old musty smell and the ac was not working. For this inconvenience, we should have been upgraded. The only positive review I can give for this resort is the good tasting food provided and the massage I received. I was disappointed with the room situation and feel the resort did not live up to its 4 star review rating. Would not return here or recommend this resort.
