Vecchio Hotel

An old Venetian-era building has been redesigned into stylish comfortable apartments. I loved the private balcony, the quiet courtyard and the friendly helpfulness of Yorgos, the owner, who was born here and displays photos of the place before modernisation. Perfect location in old town, beautiful surroundings. There was no TV but that was a Good Thing, nice and quiet. There was a swimming pool but we Aussies don’t go to Europe to swim. The only thing I could have wished for was a lift (elevator), after long schlep from bus station with bags. But it was only one floor up…top floor of 2-storey building. And I loved the gentle Greek music Yorgos played in the evening that wafted through the courtyard.

This hotel is stunning. Tucked away in the old town it’s peaceful but near all the restaurants. The pool is lovely and perfect for an afternoon dip. The place is also spotless. However the biggest bonus is the staff. So welcoming, helpful and friendly. I would return here in a heartbeat. Thank you for a wonderful stay

Lovely rustic hotel which oozes charm. Perfect location, staff very welcoming and breakfast was tasty. Very peaceful and tranquil. Owner and staff were extremely Friendly and helpful. Pool are was lovely and not crowded, could just sit back and chill

This hotel is located in a quiet alley in the old town, near to the Rimondi Fountain. The public areas and the large pool are attractive. However, the rooms are very basic and tired as well as being on the small side, though there was adequate room for me as a single person and the balcony was large. The worst aspect in my room was that there was no no shower cubicle or curtain so the floor of the small bathroom and the toilet became soaking wet and I had to use the large towel to keep the water at bay, luckily I was only there for one night so didnt need another shower! Some people may have no problem with this, it's just a personal no no for me. Other rooms do have a curtain or screen though so I can't say how many others have the same arrangement as mine. Breakfast buffet was available that you can take in the attractive dining area or near the pool. For the price I and friends paid at the time - €65 - this was decent value for money, but I wouldn't pay more than that based on my experience.

I'm very hesitant to write this as I love Rethymno and come here a few times a year so I want to be able to come back here now all the time! Also after staying in some places with excellent tripadvisor and *********** reviews that were absolutely awful, I will never believe in reviews again! So I'm so glad I decided to see what this place was like and it's perfect .. my type of place. It's not 5 star but it's not 5 star prices and imo it's extremely great value for what you get. What I love: Totally private and hidden behind a large Venetian locked doorway, then wow! So much space which is very unusual for Rethymno hotels, so many little snug areas to sit and chill .. as for the pool .. fabulous!! Spotlessly clean everywhere, bedrooms very comfortable, great bed, bathroom fine, spacious room with lots of nice seating areas and couches to enjoy outside, in fact as the lovely friendly receptionist advised me, you can sit anywhere! Staff all very kind and pleasant, when I first arrived some guests glared at me and were not at all friendly so with people like this I can imagine the sort of reviews they leave, not very nice but thankfully everyone else was very friendly and always greeted you. Simple breakfast excellent strong coffee best so far! I could go on ... if you love historic old world different hotels this is for you! There is the old building and then a new more modern building opposite I stayed in the old part but I'm sure the other rooms are lovely and had private balconies but really not needed as there is so much room and space everywhere. As everyone has reviewed, the Vecchio is perfectly situated in Rethymno old town. Though the hotel itself doesn´t have a restaurant, there are literally hundreds of places to eat just around the corner. Yes, the room we had might have been small, and a little worn, and the bathroom was also small. But it was very clean. The pool was well taken care of, and water quality is measured regularly and if I am not mistaken it was cleaned every evening. What really stands out to me is the peace and quiet you get while staying here. The moment you step inside the old venetian front door, the buzz from the old town disappears. For me it was total relaxation to just be able to sit at the balcony and hardly hear anything from the city noises, or to take a quick swim in the pool. The staff is excellent, and as a guest at the Vecchio, you really feel seen and appreciated by the staff. Always a friendly "kalimera" at breakfast, and the front desk reception always has a nice word for the day. All in all, a little worn in the room interiours, but excellent staff, excellent location, peace and calm makes it well worth a stay.
