The George in Rye

Excellent location in the center of everything! The hotel is very quaint and has excellent casual seating inside and out in the courtyard. They also have a nice restaurant and bar area! My room is really cool and it has a French coffee press which I used! Plus, the staff is very friendly and helpful! Only downside is the car park is about a 7 minute walk, but only $2.5o for the day.

We arrived with a baby in a buggy and three dogs and whilst we couldn’t sit in the restaurant we were welcome into the bar area. Friendly service. Good menu. Water bowl brought for dogs! Highlight was the starters - delicious dips and padron peppers. Nice salad main, but sadly the added chicken was very dry. Prawns looked great! Will visit again.

The location of The George is excellent for seeing all the main sites and shops in Rye. It is worth noting that parking outside is limited so the best option is to either drop off and then drive to one of the many nearby car parks or park up and bring your bags to the hotel. The building is full of character and is older than it looks from the facade. The floor of our room was not level, but that added to the charm of the room. The furniture was from a range of periods and locations. The room we stayed in overlooked the High Street and was still quiet at night. There were two sets of blinds, one for privacy and another set for keeping the street lights out at night. The bed was very comfortable with a range of pillows. The was a small built in wardrobe that had a high hanging rail, which could be a problem for a short person, but there was adequate space for a short stay. The bathroom had a large, deep double ended brass-coated bath and there was also an enclosed shower. The water pressure was good and the products of a good standard. There were sufficient plugs to charge phones and other devices. There is a smart TV with access to satellite TV, if you have your own personal accounts. Ensure you log off before leaving the hotel. There is a good free wifi. There is coffee and tea facilities including a kettle, but not a coffee machine. There isn't a room safe. I booked online and received a very curt and officious email shortly before my stay, warning me about cancelling the booking, car parking and booking a time for breakfast and dinner. Fortunately the reception staff were friendly and helpful when we arrived qt the hotel. There are plenty of good places to eat dinner close to the hotel. While the dinner menu was reasonably priced and had a good range of offerings, what was served was just acceptable. The breakfast had a good range of offerings, some self-service and others brought to the table. Cooked to order breakfast was included in the breakfast price. Coffee was available using a self-service machine. If you like good coffee, I would recommend The Old Apothecary, a short walk from the hotel and a destination in itself. The George is a delightful, boutique hotel ideal for a short stay and for a visit to Rye

Champagne Afternoon tea for two a birthday treat for myself from my friend. Terrible service as No one seemed to know what they were meant to be doing. Prosecco served & Not champagne. No mention of what fillings in the sandwiches or what the cakes were. One tiny pot of jam for 4 scones. We had to ask for our champagne which was Prosecco & we also had to ask for tea. No one checked on us to see if all was okay. Food was tasty. Overall service was dreadful, very disappointed.

Didn't stay at the hotel but ate at the restaurant. Really disappointing. The scallops were overcooked, the oysters were puney and the fish stew was like tomatoes soup with rubbery squid floating in it. Service added at 12.5percent. Live locally, but won't be going back.

For the price of our stay I was surprised how average everything was. The hotel and staff definitely need to invest in paying attention to the details. So many little things were poor that it accumulated in a very disappointing and poor value for money accommodation. Hotel not very clean, floor at breakfast still had the previous nights mud and glass (which we saw brake) on the floor, dinner and breakfast very average, coffee from a tap! via tablet, wine served ‘warm’, plug in bath didn't fit, the dispenser tubes missing or broken off in all the soap/cream etc dispensers fixed to walls, place really looks and feels ‘flat’, kids bed not made up before our arrival etc. Like said, nothing serious, but unacceptable at this price. Seems the hotel is riding the wave of good days gone by. Potential to be so special. Would definitely not recommend it.

Absolutely terrible Afternoon Tea, a total rip-off at £25 per head.. Had seen the photos on the website and had the chance to go for the first time since re-opening as a treat as we were in the area. Had to wait almost a half hour after being seated, despite having booked well in advance. It was very obvious that there were not enough staff on duty on a busy day. When the afternoon tea came it was a disgrace; 3 tiny rectangular sandwiches (we had asked for no salmon, but did expect it to be replaced with one of the other fillings duplicated), the scones were fine, but then no cake, just 4 tiny petit fours and that was it. It looks absolutely nothing like the photo of the sumptuous stand of goodies on the website and should be taken to trading standards. Such a shame as we remember the teas of old.

We emailed this hotel to ask about rooms. We received an e.mail back saying they had no booking in our name. We sent another e.mail stating we just wanted info before booking and never received a reply. Sorry to say typical of expensive British hotels.

Most amazing room and hotel my husband I named our room the pigeon penthouse it was the nicest room I’ve ever stayed in . The bath was to die for . The staff from check in to our attentive pier was so helpful with our bottle of red to the lovely breakfast waitress such a helpful young lady . We were treated so well on our time in the hotel will return as soon as we can . Thank you to everyone what an amazing experience.
