If you're looking to explore San Jose, or have a basecamp for exploring the rest of Costa Rica, this hotel offers a great central location, situated right in the middle of San José. Good for walking to restaurants or shops in the city, or joining one of the several sight-seeing excursions which can be easily arranged by the hotel. The rooms are nice, though the decor is a bit dated. The common areas are also well designed for lounging while reading a book or getting to know your fellow travelers staying on the same floor. The breakfast buffet was fairly common for a hotel offering breakfast in Costa Rica, but good, and the area also doubles as a bar at night. Other amenities include a gym with free weights and a couple machines, along with two saunas, one dry and one steam.

Great location and good value for money . Read the reviews prior to travelling and was apprehensive about staying at Urban Green. However on our 6th and final night here I can't say the experience has been a bad one. Rooms clean, good room service daily with basic but decent toiletries in bathroom. Breakfast is simple and once you learn the routine ( room number first to chef before any drinks are dispensed ) it's fine. The hotel isn't fancy and yes the no window rooms are unusual .. but given the price and where it's located you can't go wrong. All the main attractions are within walking distance and there are plenty of places to eat and supermarkets nearby.

We stayed for one night only (gladly!) because we were travelling to Tamarindo. The hotel feels quite sketchy, the rooms are poor and don’t have any windows. The breakfast was bad, the overall experience was poor and I would not recommend this place to anyone I like.

I’ve stayed in some pretty low end places and this is one of the worst. Our room had no windows. I’ve never heard of such a thing for a hotel. One of the elevators was broken, we were given half a roll of toilet paper, the carpet was dirty, and there was zero hot water. Yes, this place is conveniently located and sure, it was quiet, but it’s a total rip off. Coffee downstairs in the morning was $9 USD. Our key stopped working and we had to get it reprogrammed. I’ve stayed in better hostels.

Stayed here for a total of 6 days before and after a group tour. Rooms vary: I had 426 and 405. The latter had no window and felt a little claustophobic, despite its size. Lift was out of action (and I sensed this was not just a temporary issue) and, on a few occasions, room card did not work, which was inconvenient. However, on the positive side, beds were very comfortable indeed and the breakfast (Costa Rican) was excellent (and not the same each day). Breakfast staff and the evening bar staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Put in this hotel on two nights by a tour group, so they probably gave us the cheapest rooms on the third floor. These were interior rooms, with no windows, stale air and low ceilings. I got sick both times. There was no hot water in the shower either time. The beds felt like they were full of mites. Not an enjoyable experience. The location of the hotel was great if you want to explore the old town.

I booked this room on Booking and didn't read the fine print. We got a inside room with no window. It felt so odd so we paid $13 more to switch to a room with windows. First off the elevator was inoperative. The room felt shabby. It was decent size and was clean, for the most part, but there were marks on the walls, the carpet was stained and there was a small hole in the door. The air conditioner unit on the wall was dripping water so the carpet was wet below it. Everything felt like bare bones, including the towels and no extra roll of toilet paper. One thing positive was the breakfast was very good and the staff was super nice. I would not stay here again however.

I have been 5 different times in Costa Rica visiting San Jose (and metro area), La Fortuna, Quepos and Punta Arenas. I have stayed in 8 different hotels in this country. The Urban Green Hotel & Suites, in my opinion, is a rundown hotel and the management has no respect or appreciation for their clientele. All the floors have a kind of mezzanine corridor that will have two levels of rooms in the same floor. Since I was staying in the 5th floor, if go up using the escalators, it will be around 8 or 9 floors in total…..what is the problem? The elevator didn’t work for the entire duration of my stay. Is kind of hard, every time you go up or down this way with luggage, especially for families, older or handicap people. The management was really working hard on fixing that. That was what they posted on a flyer. Most good hotels (I’m not taking about excellent hotels, that should be in another level) have very good breakfast with a buffet style with several options including hot items (eggs, hams and typical Costa Rica dish), cheese, breads, fruits, juices, coffee, pastry, etc. Not here. Just 2 types of breakfast the typical one (casado) and the one with waffles. All mornings are the same. With 2 different juices only. The room is quite normal with an old-fashioned style and with various things missing. Mine, doesn’t had a waste basket nor a telephone and also one of the glass panel of the shower door, was not in there. We took a tour to the famous hot springs in Arenal Volcan in La Fortuna and I ask the staff for 2 towels and they didn’t allow that because “no hotel property can take it out of the hotel”. and I ask them if they expect me to travel with towels in my luggage and they say yes, I should have bring towels from my home… can you believe that?, btw… I didn’t plan on stealing towels, I’m only borrowing them for a tour and will bring them back. The only good thing about the hotel was the help of María in reception. Thanks for always trying to help us. We will be back to Costa Rica, is a very nice place to vacations but NEVER EVER, I WILL RETURN TO THIS HOTEL.

DONT BE FOOLED. Couldn’t pay me to stay here again. Rooms DO NOT come with a window! Must read the smallest T&Cs. The gym resembled more of a death chamber than a gym. Health and safety would have a field day. Treadmill broken, only 40% of the dumbbells hadn’t been stolen and had to go up 2 floors for a water fountain. When I brought this concern up with reception (who were lovely) they told me how they had brought it up to there manager several months ago but they have been to lackadaisical to do anything about the matter. Extremely disappointing. Wouldn’t stay here again. Room had a window into the hall way with a light that was on all night which prevented us from sleeping
