Amazing place to stay and perfect location! We had a wonderful week staying at The Fisherman’s House. With just 8 rooms and each room having dedicated sun beds and a parasol, it is perfect. Air con was great as well! We walked out of our room directly onto the pool and our beds, which are cushioned and comfy. The pool area was so clean and quiet, with a sea view to the eastern side of the island. The house is situated back from the road, and directly across the road is a brilliant viewing area for the whole Caldera, right up to Oiea and Fira. Look to see how many cruise liners are in the bay and whether it’s the right day to visit Fira! Vana is the most amazing host. She wants everyone to have a fabulous time and is there to help that, without overdoing it. She knows the island brilliantly- as well as some amazing restaurants with lovely views who will pick you up and bring you home! Vana and her staff also provide, at your chosen time, the most amazing breakfast delivered to your room or terrace. You don’t then need to eat till dinner! One minute up the road is the bus stop where there’s busses every 30 mins to the Akrotiri Beach in one direction, or up to Fira in the other direction, via the lovely Megalochori village which is well worth a visit. Just past the bus stop is the first mini market and the beginning of the village. The village is lovely - compact and pretty, with its own blue-domed church and cute streets. There are a selection of about 6 tavernas and restaurants, which were all lovely. Recommend Portobello especially for relaxed friendliness and nice food at a reasonable price. There’s also a bigger mini market plus a few little shops. Also lovely is to walk up to the Venetian castle. A short, pretty walk to amazing views and a fab cafe at the top! Beforehand everyone said Santorini is very expensive, but you can spend as much or little as you want, with Mousaka or gyros at about 12-15 euros and the local house wine around 10 euros a litre. As you can see, we loved it and had an amazing time. Lots of relaxing with a few little trips on the local bus to see a few towns. You could treble the cosy of your accommodation to have a place directly overlooking the caldera. Or quadruple it for an infinity pool overlooking it. But the Fisherman’s House is perfect otherwise, in every single way. We’ll be returning without a doubt. Akrotiri, in the south of this small island, is in itself pretty, and has easy access to the more popular and busier parts.
