Islesburgh House Hostel

Probably the best hostel in Scotland. Delightful staff and especially helpful stewards/wardens. Charming old building with lots of space and adequate parking. Fine garden and interesting tree. Clean kitchen and energetic staff who have a very fast turn-around in the mornings. Fridges/kettles and ensuite in some rooms. Ideal position. Near the public library for computer terminals since the one in the Games' Room has been removed. However, I do take issue with the lack of cleaning in the private guest rooms especially when the stay is for more that four days. This means that towels and bedlinen do not get changed, the floor isn't vacuumed and the toilets, showers and washbasins become a health hazard. I remember that there was some cleaning done during longer stays pre-covid. However, the days of the pandemic are thankfully over and, if the staff were concerned about catching noxious diseases from their poor visitors, they could wear gloves and masks. Other visitors were complaining about this potential health hazard, so it's not just a crusty old Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management graduate that is concerned. Other establishements are coping. Still a GREAT stay!

Probably one of the best hostels I've ever used in Scotland. Large, roomy. Clean and well appointed. Brilliant and extensive facilities. Easy to find. Easy to walk into Lerwick. Decent price and super friendly staff. Couldnt recommend this hostel highly enough. When I am back in Lerwick, I will stay here again.

Impressive from the outside, I was also very impressed with the hostel. It's run very efficiently alongside the community centre on the other side of the road. The large building boasts lovely big rooms, a well equipped kitchen, a huge dining room, a comfortable, quiet lounge and even a games room where you can play pool if you want to. It's ideally located, within 15 minutes walk from everything you need - ferry terminal, museum, cafés and restaurants on the quay, supermarkets and the town bus stops just outside the hostel too. The staff here are super friendly and helpful.

This hostel is large with many amenities. It was very clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. There are many spaces throughout the house such as a games, lounge, reading rooms, etc. The kitchen and bathrooms were large and clean, and the staff were very informative. I’d stay here again for sure as it was one of my favourite hostels I’ve ever been to. The double room we booked was the perfect size and it enabled us to have plenty of space for our belongings as well as privacy. The stay was very affordable, providing more value for your money.
