Premier Inn Cardiff City South

This is our go to hotel when attending events in Cardiff and usually stay here every couple of months. I like the location as easy to get to off the motorway and plenty of free parking included. The city centre is within a 15-20 min walk or an Uber is really cheap usually less than £6. You know what you’re getting with a premier inn, budget accommodation but good service and decent rooms. On this visit though we were left disappointed. The room was grubby and run down. Marks on walls and carpets. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, the sink was dirty, hair around the bath. The was one towel for 3 guests and it had a nasty brown mark on it! Woodwork in the bathroom was rotten and dirty and needed replacing and the bathroom ceiling was mouldy. In the room a ceiling panel had been removed and not put back exposing dusty and dirty pipes and vents. There was a huge hole/rip in the quilt cover! Was also disappointed this trip with the breakfast, the whole area again looked not dirty but grubby, food was cold / Luke warm and tasteless. Limited continental choice no cheese etc. pancakes and crumpets like rubber and no muffins as advertised.

The hotel was larger than I thought with a good car park right outside. In Cardiff parking is a rarity so I would suggest leaving your car here and getting a taxi into Cardiff Central. (£8 to Cardiff Castle) We had the last room on the ground floor which is quite a distance from Reception. (Something to be aware of if you have mobility issues). Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only complaint is that the room was far too warm. There was no air con, and a fan was in the room, but be aware of this if you have an issue with warmth. Overall a brilliant stay.

We visited Cardiff for my partners birthday, to attend an Ice hockey game and booked to stay here. I asked for the room to be decorated in some way and were very happy to be greeted with a balloon, chocolates, bottle of wine and a lovely birthday message! This already superceded any expectations. We were able to check in early for a small fee, which was again helpful to our trip and plans. The room was clean and comfortable and set up for our little one who we had with us. We decided prior to check out, to have breakfast at the brewers fayre pub next door, and again we were not disappointed. Breakfast was lovely, all hot food well cooked and tasty, continental had a good variety available and a good variety of both hot and cold drinks were available too.

Had a great stay at the Premier Inn, with very friendly and helpful staff. Ideally place with only a 15-20 minute walk to the city centre. And a 5 minute drive to Cardiff Bay. I would highly recommend a visit.

Booked a room clean and it wasn’t done, we had to go to reception to request clean towels. We also reported a fault with the electrics which leaked water all over the side and again this was not fixed during our stay. I am registered disabled and walk with a crutch, we were placed on the first floor with no lift facility and when we complained we were told that they could only swop us to a normal room, we were in a premier room with no offer of a refund for the difference.

The hotel is fine with parking . The room was large and clean although standard Wi-Fi was poor . Breakfast is served at the Brewers Fayre on site and the evening meal was reasonably priced and decent .

The overall cleanliness was under-par. There was mould on the net curtains at the window. There was black mould around the shower screes, especially at the foot end. Thankfully we were grateful the blackout curtains did their job; as one of the outside lights, which cover the carpark; A very bright LED light, was broken off its fixture on the stantion, and it was hanging by its power cable facing towards our window. We reported it to the reception staff, who made out they knew nothing about it, however, her colleague said in a hushed voice," I reported it last week but no one has come to repair it."... Bit lax, don't you think? The pub, where breakfast was served, was scruffy; it looked tired. Ten or fifteen years probably when it was new, it was grand. But the manager need to get hold of the staff, or employ a window cleaner. Sat, as we were, with the sun shining in, the hand prints all over the window glass, wasn't a good image. It looked and felt dirty. The waiting staff were fine and helpful. The food was well prepared, but the plates were cold. This day and age, the plates should be kept warm, and there were finger marks showing on the outer rim of a few too. Not the best example of Premier Inn. And I have stayed at a fair few over the past twenty-odd years.

I don't expect much from a cheap hotel, but sleep is important and a room intended to be able to be worked from (Premier Plus) should be fit for that purpose - my expectations are realistic and pretty low. On my past 2 visits to this hotel I have stayed in room 134 and the guttering outside the room has been faulty on both trips (Dec 23 and Feb 24) so the rain hitting the wall and floor below the room kept me awake and annoyed me all day while working in the room. I reported the issue in December 23, but the same issue was there in Feb 24 which isn't on given how cheap the repair would be. The key programming system also failed during my stay which it has done several times previously as well, this causes delays in reception and over-works the staff. The rooms are looking tired now and there are bad stains on the floors in the ones I have used lately. The staff are great, the beds are really comfortable and the 'plus' rooms are well equipped for anything you'll need so it's far from bad, I'm just flagging that things are going down-hill and investment is needed, impetus on having a great sleep also seems to have disappeared.
